Limiting bandwidth on windows xp pc

Hi, i wanna limit the bandwidth that is going out on our network. I have 15 ppl living in same place and all of them wanna use the inet. Using that telkom issue modem :( dyna poef u know . Ive tried couple of programs but none of them are working.

Plz help asap :)

Best I could get was WinGate, but it is not for free....

End result, I started learning Linux, as this is your only true solution to bandwidth monitoring, throttling/ etc.

I suggest you get another box (just the box, no monitor needed) and install something like Smoothwall or IPCop on it.

There is a program called NetLimiter that can throtal bandwidth per application running on a xp machine, it's not free thow.
 
running windows xp pc with connection sharing to 15 ppl on a lan. Netlimiter doesnt do what i require. i want to limit the bandwidth to the 15 users so that they can only download at lets say 64k instaid of using the whole 512k. I want to get something like clarconnect but the problem is the ppl here have that dynalink modem and cant get drivers for it for linux.

Druid - it sounds like you're trying to throw software at an operational problem.
Even if you limit them to 64K, it's not going to solve the problem, it'll just slow everything down. They can still start a loooooooong download and leave it and wait.
My suggestion:
Put in a proxy that requires authentication that can monitor usage from each user, and when they exceed their fair share, lock them out by changing the proxy password. You'll need a firewall to stop them from not using the proxy.
 
its more for surfing, they not allowed to download. I want to do it so that i can play cs while they surf. Is that posible?
 
lol dont want to limit connection , wanna limit bandwidth to network users from the modem pc :P

Also searched Hi and Low, but foun dnothing, at least nothing that is for free

Well - i've also scoured the net, and all i've come up with on XP is QOS, where you can configure MS's QOS (Qulaity of Service) to give certain IP Addresses priority, but anybody who's tried it says it does not work, and I've not found one example of exactly where you put these settings in the registry, so I cannot even test it.

Maybee it's worth forking out some bucks for a hardware solution like:

Now - louis - if you've got less than 3 pc's, you can use the free version of http://inetshaper.com/.

But - PaB - I've not come across anything free for you - yet ... will keep looking.
