Linux - Fedora vs Ubuntu

Fedora uses Yum package manager. And Yum sucks nuts. Never mind Fedora asking permission (even as root) to do almost anything... e.g. rm -r /var/www/tmp ---> are you sure you want to remove /var/www/tmp? [y/n] ---> wait... hmmm... let me see.... im a linux system admin logged in as root.... so OF COURSE i want to ****ing remove this directory.... and dont tell me to use rmdir -rf because the -f switch should only be used when deleting hard links / devices / etc...

...which grinds my chi : )

Ubuntu has local update server. Ubuntu has 'apt'. I love Ubuntu.

lin-ucks s-ucks

Either your a WinBlows user... in which case i wont even bother wasting my time with you... OR... your an OSX user... in which case I could agree with you in some ways... especially if your a GUI click junkie and not a server admin staring at 20 terminals right now. : )

You will find that the reason it prompts you is because "rm" is aliased to "rm -i".
It is a safety net. If you don't like it, then remove the alias.

Hawker. Boot it up in VirtualBox. Of all my slating i must admit Fedora does a V good job as a desktop OS.

the thing i have never understood is the saying, ubuntu is more user friendly.... Please someone tell me why. I run fedora and just about everything I want to do, as a normal user, is the same as on fedora. I mean gnome is gnome. I see no obvious differences. I mean my gran is using ubuntu, I could easily switch it to fedora and she wouldn't even notice

Yum is a yellow dog. Not sure you want one of those sucking your nuts ;)

Beggars cant be choosers!!! KIDDING!!!!! hahaha.

Ill go have a look at the fedora website again...if it is pretty enough...might give it a go in VM or something. *breaks out in a sweat thinking about the megs dowloading Vbox gonna use* urg

Thanks, I'll give it a bash. (ooo, er that's almost a pun)

Does it do the desktop better than Ubuntu?

they both use gnome/kde. - ( unless you bootin up like ftwm :] ) - the applications are ok. some better than buntu some worse. but as a server, ubuntu smokes it. Amazon EC2 / S3 failover (Ubuntu UEC) perhaps being a juicy example.

Although.. if your bootin things up in VirtualBox.. might as well try full on cloud OS... Google Chromium OS (Dev) for example. : )

yeah fedora's only downfall is yum. though later versions are much improved.

otherwise it really is little different to ubuntu.
