I hear alot of people praising linux for its speed. I just wanna know how much linux costs and how many things its compatible with

It costs nothing, except the bandwidth/cost of a cd - look here. Or you could order a copy of ubuntu and wait 6-8 weeks for delivery and pay (sometimes) R25-ish duty - look here.
Those links are all for ubuntu - the distribution that most myADSL linuxers use (I think), and probably the most novice friendly.

You pay with a steep learning curve. If you didn't know that Linux is free then I doubt if Linux is for you.

You can get 1GB of SAIX local only for like R19.

I get direct network access to a mirror so any local Linux stuff I get for absolutely nothing![]()
I'm supposed to set up an internal mirror for the university in the holidays, then I too will be enjoying super fast upgrades.![]()
My record for wireless apt upgrades is somewhere around 6MBps. Really feels great when my upgrades are 1.5GB and I do it in a matter of minutes.
