List of congested exchanges?

Sidenote: My wife is at home all day and she said that the line has been "normal" (general browsing and downloading of documents) but just after 5 it got a lot slower.

Exactly what we were experiencing, during business hours everything is fine, but around 17:00 -18:00 it slowly goes up to 500 - 700ms local latency.

And once again, I am trying not to get my hopes up too soon, but yesterday the latencies were fine the whole evening.

I cant keep track of all you okes... :(

Can you remind me what exchange you on please?

He is on the same exchange as me : BELLVILLE NORTH (WBLX03)
I am on the verge of organising a ANCYL braai at that building... hopefully they can break the place down and force telkom to start fixing up this place.

hey man

so I assume that things are no better? Last night how were the pings?

Last night I only got home pretty late, but Monday night at 6PM... latency and overal network performance was bad.... really really bad... 1560 ms just to get through my exchange.

Personally I dont see any improvement ... but if anything, one thing I did notice was latency is not consistant on a certain level... after 6PM it jumps sporadically anything from 1500 ms to 700 ms to 900ms. Early mornings and before 5 PM its rock solid on 7ms. Once people get home after 6PM it all falls apart.... I have mailed / logged another call with telkom with screenshots, but I havent heard anything from them yet. (not that I expect to get any results from that useless company)

Actually Techead, as pornolio said, we're on the same exchange - WBLX03 - and our line has been performing like a absolute peach all day, even now 9ms to www.saix.net on a WebAfrica account. Was like that last night as well on the fwe occasions that I checked. The highest it has peaked since this morning 7:00am is 197ms.

So tell them they need to keep doing what they are doing so we can all be smiling.

Also I can only hope that our line doesn't go for a ball of **** again tomorrow night, this is Telkom after all :S

so right now, your congestion is gone?

what on earth is a 3x3 switch ?

Anyway, more or less at the time of pornolio's post our line was also going into the 50-100ms regions.

It's better, but not optimal.

100ms at peak time is significantly better but its still "broken" and unacceptable by any fixed line standards (except Telkom's of course). It should be 10-12ms to a local site, prior to the Bellville exchange getting congested, that was what I used to get.

Progress is progress however and it's good to see things becoming usable again. I would like to have my cake and it eat though, considering how much Telkom extorts out of us for a pretty crappy fixed line offering.

I am guessing you guys with 50-100ms are the guys on the DSLAMs who wasn't moved to the 2nd ATM link. At least I can say for now the 2nd ATM link is still doing ok, 1st hop is still 7ms as it should be.

Well, something seems planned for Bellville North 4:

Progress:

Not sure if this is going to be maintenance on the WBLX03 exchange in Bellville North, but last night I checked my connection again, and it was around 400 / 500 ms through WBLX03. I have one more avenue to try before I completely give up and go via the same route as Tinuva to order a second line.

Seems this is the only option, but damn I really, really hope they dont patch my second ADSL line into WBLX03. Otherwise I am going to sit in a situation where I order / cancel ADSL lines until I hit a jackpot exchange. Not ideal, but its the only viable solution left.

Now with Diablo 3 coming... the pressure is building
