LIVE | Apartheid flag judgment

Your response does not make sense.
The question I asked was about the banning of the old flag.
What do you think banning the old flag will achieve?

The exact same thing as keeping the flag. Do YOU use the flag? If not, what is the difference between having it and not having it?

A flag is just a flag.
The past is the past - whatever happened happened.
People should stop crying about spilled milk - the past is the past.
Banning the old flag is not going to achieve anything - banning it is not going to change what happened in the past, and will not change the mindset of people.
If the old flag offends you, its because you let it offend you.
Time to grow up - stop sulking - stop being a cry-baby.

But how else will I show a certain demographic who is boss if I don't ban it and everything else related to their past.

Maybe be more inclusive with your points and analogies in the future and I wouldn't query them, don't assume everyone is thrilled with name changes, censorship, removal of monuments, etc

its all there. i just had to explain it better to you, for your sake.

The right to have it.

As I pointed out earlier, I woukd be fine with people owning it and am against the ban. I just wonder why people say it isn't racist, but make it a white person's issue as if other racial groups won't own the flag? This ban affects everyone, not just white people.

And if the ban solves nothing, what did owning the old flag ever do?

If banning the old flag won't solve anything, why then ban it?

Jup, there is no place left in SA for white people and their culture. Sucks that we can not all just pack up and leave.
Are you saying white culture is racism? Because sure sounds like it and that's racist

Pieter du Toit: The old flag and the unbearable whiteness of being AfriForum
The flag therefore was the product of attempts to unify white South Africa, to the exclusion of black South Africans, something which Roets and AfriForum have difficulty understanding, never mind admit to, writes Pieter du Toit.

"On Union Day the struggle, the bloody struggle, between the two races in the country ended. And on Union Day the two races decided to work together, to have one common future, and I believe that when the Flag Design Act takes takes effect on Union Day it will place a seal on on our wish, on the firm decision by the two races to become one in every sense." – DF Malan, House of Assembly, October 26, 1927.

On Wednesday evening, after the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg issued an order governing the use of the apartheid national flag Ernst Roets, the de facto leader of AfriForum and its most prominent protagonist, tweeted a depiction of the flag asking: "Did I just commit hate speech?"

He did this after appearing next to the CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation Sello Hatang on the court steps following the judgment, claiming that AfriForum was a "reluctant litigant" in the matter and that the organisation wants to combat racism. Roets and AfriForum say the matter, to them, was about free speech.

Agree with the above , especially.... "Roets and AfriForum have difficulty understanding, never mind admit to" ... we all have our view points , informed by our experiences. Suppose only Road to Damascus experiences would pivot one to a different view. Hopefully the further we travel along, and the old gives way to the young...the passion that now fuels are national discourse will be extinguished.

Like tolerate an expired flag?
It's a flag mate..... my middle finger is more offensive...

BTW... the current flag is technically expired, it was only created to be temporary
