LLU and Naked ADSL

Telkom’s new CEO Pinky Moholi says that there are many options when it comes to LLU, but they would take ICASA’s lead on the process
 
At least they're aiming for naked DSL, a step in the right direction!
 
I still reckon naked ADSL it needs to be done by April to meet the non-bundling requirements of the CPA ;)
 
Pinky knows that ICASA would not move an inch - so, no pressure on Telkom (their partner in Government).

Oh, yeah... right... one that favours Telkom right? Why should we be surprised? :rolleyes:
 
Naked DSL is probably the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to reducing ADSL prices as it requires only simple legislative changes to make it happen.

Telkom could easily start offering it anyway, but it seems like they're going to milk everyone with the voice-line access tax for as long as they can get away with.

However, naked DSL regulations should probably include maximum rates for the DSL access portion, to prevent Telkom from pulling a fast one and just tacking the residential line portion onto the DSL access fee.

With the application of some real political will, we could probably have this by end Q2, but i'm not holding my breath..
 
I actually have high expectations from Roy. Since he's been appointed he has been planning major changes and most of us were hoping for these changes. I strongly hope that he puts motion in this, soon.

On a side note, we all know how fast the government are to make changes in their favour, not the majority. Lets just hope for the best.
 
Naked ADSL and Bitstream are not the same as proper LLU. Nothing short of proper LLU where ISP's can place their own equipment and network access points into Telkom exchanges will suffice.

We must not be lulled into settling for second best. Bitstream is a red herring that still leaves the local loop in the hands of Telkom.

That's exactly what they all did before him - plan. That's all the guavament can do - plan. They plan everything, in nice little speeches, proposals and with lip service.
But that's it. It stays in its planned form. Nothing materialises, unless it's a plan to line their pockets. Only then does it see the light of day...

In other words, "We want to figure out how we can STILL F@#$ the consumer over and get away with it, before we proceed." I think that is what they wanted to say.

Telkom could remove the manditory analog line rental now, they just don't want to, why, simple: 500'000 adsl users @ R100 a month = R50 mil a month in lost income.

Go TELKOM, you're the bomb. :wtf:
 
Telkom.gov.za + DoC.gov.za + ICASA.hmm.za all involved, YAR LOL!
