Load Shedding - the all in one thread

gah - why dont they just let me type in my suburb / post code and see
I have no idea what area I am in, and even when I search all areas, still cannot find my suburb.

ag well, no fine

What's the difference?

I just feel there is no need to sugar coat reality. These are forced power cuts because ESKOM does not have enough power to satisfy the demand.
If the public get all blase about it ESKOM might think they can relax a bit.
We require round the clock work to minimize the disruption from ESKOM.
or
maybe it is cause I have just moved into my new apartment and am sitting in the dark typing this on my laptop waiting for the power to come on :D

Loading shedding implies you have to much and thus need to get rid of the surplus. Just like a snake sheds it's skin? At least that makes the most sense to me...

Nah, as much as I hate Eskom, thats not a misnomer in my book.

They have too much load, and need to shed it. Load is equivalend to "power draw" or "power consumption".

Fair enough.

EDIT - It still should be called "Power cuts because we paid our CEO millions a month and goverment cant run a nation let alone around a block"

Awesome for the appliances, I am sure.

I've actually installed 6.2kva worth of UPS since I started this thread, and now I can't wait till we have a proper disruption so I can see how long my "room" lasts!

/me sees this thread becoming rather long by the end of the year!

hehe - but its not just the PC stuff.
Its the TVs that switch on and off, the fridges, the pool pump, etc etc etc.

Now, I may be no expert, but rapidly switching appliances on and off all the time cannot do them the world of good.

There better not be load shedding today

We are having a praise party at our church at 7pm.
How much would it suck if the power went out. Especially if lots of people came...

No Eskom, don't do it
