Load Shedding - the all in one thread

sigh

1st Jan - power off over night
2nd Jan - hour or so in the day
3rd Jan - ditto
4th Jan - two times power dips - appliances off/on
5th Jan - one times power dip
6th Jan - one times power dip (its not yet 8am - so this may be updated).

So, 6 days into 2008 - not one day so far with reliable power.

Eish Moederloos,

Where might the end of your rainbow be?

We seem to be OK here in the Cape. Can only assume both Reactors are running full full steam ahead at Koeberg and all bolts tightened down. :)

Regards,
BTTB.

West rand - and it aint so much a rainbow as a nice shower of monochrome brown...
:(

You running with a UPS on your PC no doubt?

yup, one on main PC and one shared between 4 "servers" (actually, router, NAS, 2000 server and a second router).

Lasts for about 4 mins on average, so the spikes and dips are at least covered.

Good!

With Eskom the way it is, a UPS is an absolute must for any PC user.

E.g. My wife, myself and a friend have the same motherboards and PSU for the last few years. Wife and I have both got UPS units on our PC's.
The friend who lives in the next suburb with no UPS has been through 3 of the same motherboard, yet our set-ups are still operating.
In my case my machine runs 24/7. My wife likes to switch hers off at night although I have explained to her that it is better to keep the chips warm and the machine running.
Friend has recently installed a UPS, so let's see if he has better success.

I have had the exact same experiences so far!

can't remember when was the last time that I had a power cut..
still have to experience the joys of loadshedding.

7th - no issue
8th - power failure of about 20-30 mins at 11pm

so, 7/8 days so far...

Aaaggh, why can't they do bloody load-shedding at work? I wish for the power to go off all day while I'm here, but as soon as I set foot in my house, they'd wake up and start load-shedding. This is f'ed up!

Haha Moederloos, You thought 0 times before writing that. They have woken up, haven't you been watching the news. As we speak power stations are going up and I have an inside ear that says they are paying quite a premium for round the clock shifts etc to get the building done asap. This brainless whining may make you all feel better but it doesn't change anything.

Enjoy your stay and I pity the country that has to deal with your boundless negativity.

Well said - look forward to all the "boundless negativity" leaving our shores soon!!

spoken like a true eskom lackey, walk a mile in his shoes first afore ye judge him:mad:

I too live in the Weltevreden Park area and since the Xformer blew up a few months ago leaving us with no power for 4 days i have installed a big UPS and a generator - there are solutions - whinging does not solve anything.

Eskom Power

Apparently, sometimes when the power is extremely high, certain regions get a "2 hour no-power" restriction...What i would like to know is, where on the net can a person find the next city/town that will be effected?..One minute youre busy working, the next moment everything stops. I had a look at "www.poweralert.co.za", but couldn't find anything there
