Local bandwidth download hotspots

this is the thing i don't understand/like about mybb... they just repeat articles.

didnt we have something almost identical a couple months/year ago? why rewrite it again? has anything changed - nope.

every month or so we get a broadband comparison which is just identical to the last. i just don't get it...

edit: i'm not complaining about the topic. whilst i don't think this stuff should be shouted from the roof tops there isn't a need to highlight it. especially since everything mentioned (besides ftp) requires and invite. thus it's kinda pointless telling ppl about it since well they can't join.
 
Way to go MyBB. Thanks for giving BSA more ammo to fuel their BS. Soon we'll be left with local that really will be useless.

Dude wtf are you on about? Yes I also find it funny how members of the invite sites try to act l337 and secret.

But when the usenet servers themselves are shut down then it wouldn't be so funny. Not everyone can afford 4mb/s uncapped to use a paid service.

I would suggest making mention in the article that usenet servers only hold text files. As for the torrent kiddies, I have no comment on them.

The Usenet servers in South Africa are run by two of the biggest Telecomms Companies in the entire country. You really don't think they would be running them if there was anything illegal about them, would you now? :D

Besides, they are being abused/misused to such an extent that they are virtually useless anyway. I really couldn't give a rat's tushie what happens to them.

And for that matter I really don't think there is anything wrong with talking about them. They are public servers... why should the public not know about them? Free access for all! :cool:

The only ones who complain about it are those greedy buggers who are already raping the servers to such an extent that nobody else can get a single connection. I feel naught for them.
 
There's nothing wrong with the public talking about them. The problem is uninformed lawyers getting their panties in a knot and imposing their will.

They may be run by two of the biggest telecoms companies, but if they attract the wrong type of media coverage then what's stopping them from pulling the plug altogether, stating that it's more trouble than it's worth?

Yes they are pretty slow, but for many it's their only source. That's pretty poor form Gary - not everybody is as fortunate as we are to source our stuff elsewhere. There's no need to say fine take it down, I don't care.

Then they guys who are abusing it should take note and make the access fair for all. Until then I see no need to be "fair" about it. They want to abuse it, then let them lose it.

Abused it much? So when you talk about THEM you actually mean people like you? Yes and greedy people who download that amount are the reason it is so crap. I don't worry as i use int for all my stuff but not everyone is fortunate enough to have that ability so it is their only choice.

Very poor form i agree with that specially considering you are one of those who abused it and now you say you do not care if the server gets removed.


I had a call yesterday as well, The guy said excessive bandwidth etc. , a little snippet from your boycott mweb facebook thing and the reason they canceled that mweb local thing was abuse. Sadly you are preaching to the choir again i see

that was on BitFarm... not Usenet. I stopped using the local news servers years ago when I couldn't get a connection anymore.

And by abuse I'm not talking volume, I'm talking hacking the system to make more than the allotted number of connections.

Those people who are doing it know perfectly well what I am talking about. If you know nothing about it, then I would suggest you keep your mouth shut before you embarrass yourself for a second time today.

Currently I'm doing more than 800 Gigs a month on uncapped... but still using only the permitted number of connections.
 
Relax it is in everyone's nature to abuse services, i think it comes from all the abuse we take.

Some abuse some are better than that. So chill you seem a bit tense today.
