How come Axxess is R 360-00 for 30 gigs (SAIX I assume)
And Openweb is R 130-00 for 30 gigs (IS I assume)

Surely they cannot be so much more?
I am finding IS useless on News servers and SAIX super fast - 500k/sec upwards.
Is IS really that crap and thats the reason for the huge difference in price?

Essentially there is very little difference between the two, it's exactly the same thing. Except you get access to their respective news servers with the different speeds.

The pricing structures are different though.

ISP's buy accounts from IS, so they buy a 30gb local only account from IS and then sell it to you. The isp only has a choice of a few account sizes and any left overs that you don't use go to IS.

SAIX afaik is on a per gig basis, so the ISP buys one gig and then you buy the one gig from them. So you can buy 5gb from your ISP and only use 3gb and then your ISP only buys 3gb from SAIX.

So pricing differs only because they are different pricing structures. IS can charge the ISP less per account because they benefit if the user uses less of the account and they can work on a much larger scale. Where as if an ISP sells SAIX bandwidth, they get charged more, but they only pay for what you use. Therefore if the ISP has a very large number of clients on SAIX, they can pass the benefits down to the clients and charge less per gb like IS does or they can charge the same prices and make a profit off the unused bandwidth.

The prices aren't that much more on SAIX compared to IS.
If you look at SAIX local bandwidth from ISP's other than Telkom, the pricing gap is much smaller.
Telkom owns it's entire network so it can offer much larger caps without having any large expenses.

SAIX local-only from Telkom works out much cheaper than any other ISP I know of. They don't sell it seperately, but there's 10GB free local pegged onto every 1GB international you buy from them.

If I understand you correctly, you can actually get SAIX local only cheaper from Axxexx (R10/gb debit order or R12/Gb p/paid) than from Telkom (R15/Gb)

Well, you can purchase 11GB of bandwidth and use it all for local-only from Telkom.
The cost of this package is R79.
That's R7.19 per GB.

i.e. A Telkom Internet 1GB + 10 Free Local account = R79.

So, it depends on how much you need, if you only need 5GB worth of LOCAL-ONLY, then you're wasting money on the T.I. R79 product.

Hmm, depends. I pay R149 for 3GB blended + 30GB local from Telkom, while just 30GB local from Axxess costs R300.

In useful quantities, Telkom is much cheaper.

(And who says they aren't monopolisers?)

For sake of comparing apples with apples, if you apportion the blended part as local then it's essentially 35Gb of traffic for R149.

So Telkom costs you R4.25 per local Gb

and

Axxess costs you R10.00 per local Gb

Why would anyone with more than a Std 8 NOT use Telkom?

*cough cough*
...R69,30 :)

Anyone with Std 8 has not confirmed on their site that buying 1Gb "blended" includes 10gb's local. Their guys on the phone have "confirmed" this from time to time but there is nothing on their site stating this clearly.

Guess I missed this with my higher than Std 8 education. Wish I was you

Say what? Unless I'm completely misunderstanding you...................

This is from their website, verbatim.

"# Unlimited analogue and 64K ISDN access with a 1 GB blended shaped ADSL
# 10 GB Free allocated Local Only data on DSL.."
