Hi guys,

i recently had my folks landline upgrade to ADSL 384kps and signed up with MWeb uncapped adsl. The problem im having is that (when i visit them from the UK) when i connect my iPad to the Wifi, it cannot pick up my location. is anyone else having the same problem.
I have spoken to both Telkom and Mweb's technical departments and they are absolutely clueless!!! Now with more and more wifi tablets being brought onto the market, LBS needs to active on all ADSL lines as it is a major part of a lot of the Apps on these devices.

Anyone have any insight or advice for me?

Thanks

LBS is based on either GPS or GSM tower locations. I'm not sure what this has to do with WiFi or your ISP.

Just remember the GPS is not on the Wifi only models (it uses this does it not???) since the iphone4 (stand corrected) also has builtin in GPS.

LBS is used over broadband connections in the UK - hence my question. my ISP (Sky) and all other broadband ISP have loaction based services over their connections. I know this because i connetc my wifi iPad to my home network in london and it can pinpoint my location to within 10meters. this is the same when i connect to BT and Virgin Media at work/clients.

I find it strange that ISPs here are still clueles on this topic as the tablet market will be flooded this year with dozens of different wifi only models and most of them with OS or Android LBS enabled apps.

I know that Google Maps picks up my location at home over wifi, but I think that's got more to do with Google mapping out Wifi locations when they were doing the Google Streetmaps thing.

Telkom or Mweb hardly could be considered as broadband
