Logik 47 vs Sinotec 47

Hmmm , see Game has a special on the 50 LG ( 50PQ30/PQ60) for R12.5K

I think it's a good deal what u guys think?

Thx for the info , only problem i have is my viewing distance is 3.6m , so it's screaming 47/50 , but I guess 42 isn't bad either. Just got used to the huge screen now (even though it's a bit dissapointing).
What is your budget again?

At least with LG you have in house back up service in JHB. Unfortunately I do not like their panels. A 120+ Hz would wet my appetite for an upgrade tho.

I need to make a decision here as my 7 day return is valid up till today. My gut is telling me to return the Sino and get a decent plasma.

yes - go for a plasma

My head is telling me maybe give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they come to the party... I really don't know anymore...

no, don't - forget about it. i've never heard about so many problems about these "new" sinotecs - if it's your last day, go into the store and get the biggest plasma you can get, be it samsung, sony or even LG - anything would be better really :erm:

swap it dude, go go go it's ur last day you only have a few hours left!!

Seeing as you are keen to take stuff back if they aren't up to scratch, I'd stay away from Hi-Fi corp since they don't do refunds, only exchanges. Go for the LG then and stick with LCD IMO, even if its smaller. Plasma may be cheaper but it gobbles electricity.

Any specific reason you don't like their panels? Also do these models have "pixel shifting" like the Sammys?

*phew* had a hectic drive from joburg , almost 2 accidents (deng taxis) , just waiting for the bro in law to come help me load this monster.

You better move bud.

Nothing in particular for the price they just never seemed to shine like Panasonic and Sony do.

Got the 50 LG plasma , and all I can say is WOW. It's true what they say , you have to see it to believe it.

I must say the panel is quite glossy but 90% of the time we will be watching in complete darkness so I can live with that.

I've set the the contrast and brightness to 50 , just to be safe. Also I noticed no pixel shifting mode in the Menu , I presume it's called something else ?

I'll probably use a burn in DVD or something , just because I'm pedantic :P

Thx to everyone who gave their input/advise , I'm happy now :)))))))

Well , I went over budget by R2.5K (including the extended warranty) and it was worth every cent! Watched Terminator Salvation on 720p a bit and all I can say is "slap me silly and call me Suzan!" :P

Busy breaking in with the DVD-R break in disc from AVS Forum , contrast and brightness set to 50.

Found the LGPQ30 owners thread as well :) , will play with the settings there once I've reached the 200hr mark.

Anyone else have some suggestions/advise?

Maybe we should start our own thread on all things plasma ?

After reading all this, I'm glad I bought my Sinotec when I did, I still think it was good value for money at the time (R9k for a 42"), and I've not experienced any of the problems that have been mentioned, out the box, onto the wall, its been smooth sailing.

Of course after reading this, when it reaches its EOL, I don't think I'll be getting another Sinotec...

My Sinotec 47" has a manufacture date of May 2009 (not sure if this falls within the new batch) but performance wise its been excellent thus far :)

true that..... :(

when i bought mine though, there was no screen that could compete with a 42" LCD @ 1920x1080 for around R10,000

closest was a 32" sony / samsung / LG, all running at a MAX of 720p - totally useless for PC use......

Well , I for one am cured of going "cheap". I do realize that one needs to be very careful of just slandering a company , but I am probably one of the more pedantic consumers. I'm not saying Sinotec is a bad product , on the contrary I think value for money it's a fantastic deal. Also for the average consumer , backlight bleeding may sound like a machocistic practice of some sort , and they won't even notice it. All I'm saying is that they may , MAY have had to cut costs to compete with other brands like Hitachi , Hyundai (no serious) , Logik and the sorts. It may have been a bad batch , which they won't admit for obvious reasons.

To those shopping for "bang for buck" LCD's I say go for Sinotec , but be sure to do your homework and if it looks good in the overly lit shop , it isn't necessarily going to look good in your dark living room. Google , read AVS forum , ask here in this forum.

For me , the journey has ended for now and I am more than happy with my plasma.

saleperson

When buying a TV we don't only decide on LCD/plasma and FHD/HD ready. These TVs are more like computers and have IMAGE processors like BRAVIA form Sony and Dnie from Samsung. Moreover, they have other components and chips on their motherboards, and the people who develop these processors and chips are not on the same level in terms of technology and qualifications. So you can't buy no-name milk and expect clover taste from it. NO!
IT IS YOUR OWN RISK WHEN YOU BUY A PRODUCT THAT YOU DON’T KNOW WHO MANUFACTURES IT.......
