Lonmin - What do people think

:erm:

I bet all the people that bought shares:
A) Don't understand rights issues and
B) Didn't look at the financial statements

Very risky, but if the couple shares ever recover a few bar seems good.
The same could be said of a lotto ticket. If it works out well then yes by definition it would be good.

No what I meant was is that I don't think the people above grasp that they're not getting the same benefit as those that went for the rights issue yet they're carrying the same risks. Plus the companies financial & strategic position just plain sucks imo.

That being said...nothing is impossible...could still work out. As I said before I'd rather bet on VW for a punt.

Or MTN

MTN isn't a gamble

MTN is on special I am buying as much as I can.

MTN is a quality company that's not going to close it doors so whilst their prices are on sale I'm buying.

Lonmin on the other hand, I bought blindly, I have no interest or knowledge of the commodity and resources sector at all.

Why did I do it? I never take risks all my stuff is ice cold and calculated and I made a fck load of money with my Trustco shares so I used some of that to gamble with Lonmin.

Why am I positive? I know their plan and books stink, but they are the third biggest platinum company in the world and I don't think the ANC is going to let 35 000 miners loose their job since the ANC is already looking k@k sleg atm to their people.

So I think political pressure will save the company.

MTN is trading at the same price of Vodacom, currently R142.34 - What do you expect it to raise to if its trading the same as its competitors?

R180 - R210+ where they where before the fine issue.

MTN is a solid buy it's not just the share price, it's the reassurance that make them part of my long term portfolio 20 - 30 years

MTN quite frankly has no competition :P
In South Africa yes, but remember MTN unlike the other service providers Vodacom, CellC etc are international, MTN operates in the whole of Africa and a little someone someone told me some positive expansion plans ahead.

I must agree with Thor187 on this ANC & Lonmin issue. They cannot afford for 35,000 miners to lose their jobs.

I'm going all in.

any idea why you cannot buy lonmin on EE at the moment? I am at the office so I cant really call the support line :(

That means nothing. It's trading at half the PE of Vodacom.

If MTN goes under R100 I will buy a couple.

As for the Lonmin thing, Spent R100 buying a bunch of shares at 28c a few days back. My "Profit" is now standing at R7.14c
I will leave that till it tanks or gets better (basically forget about it for the next 5 years or so).
Not going to spend another cent on it.
