SA has some whacky laws. Cop will pull you over for crossing solid line, but your bakkie can be loaded with workers, some of whom are sitting on the edge and it's all OK. I saw this on Friday in Paarden Island going to town, where cops check for people crossing the solid line, yet happily ignore the hazard caused to and by, a bunch of guys on a bakkie, sitting on the edge.

Interesting that the Tesla electric car also allows for one to use the boot to carry kids. Just that there are rear facing, seatbelted seats.
 
People say the OP should mind his own business, but come Christmas time, all of those will be moaning about how the death toll on our roads is.

+1. What is the world coming to when complete strangers are taking photos of you and putting them up on the net? We are all alive and well and did not ever have a car seat and ultra-paranoid parents. South Africa is becoming very similar to the states in this regard.

I'm not sure you guys will be of the same opinion if the (women) driver happened to slam the brakes for whatever reason and you rear-bashed her golfy...and in consequence the kid is injured or worse. The fact that you hit her from the back automatically make's you the guilty party and I don't think she will ever admit where the kid was at the time of the hit. I don't even want to think of the legal process to follow...when all of this could be easily avoided if one has the brain power to use good old common sense.

While it might be upsetting that someone takes a picture of you on public place without your concern, it is more upsetting the mentality of "mind your own business" when the driver in question is clearly in violation of the law.
(so is taking pictures while you are driving, if that was the case ;).

Yea who needs these new fangled seatbelts or people telling us to wear one, I was in an accident with out a seat belt, just whacked the front seat got a few teeth broken, then proceed to fly out the back window half ripped my ear off and had a little whack skull parmedics found me half out the car hanging on the boot, my sister was even more lucky found a few meters way from the car, breaking almost every none from her waist down and a few bones in her spine just for good measure, spending a few yeas re-learning to walk yep we still alive - ow dare they tell us to wear seat belts! fvkk dude i think you got brain damage, just because you still alive is the worst possible reason for not wearing a seat belt or telling parents to strap their kids in dude I wish other people would not have mined their own business and told us tower belts, maybe we would have started earlier and have less years spend at the hospital.

And before you go you drive safely, our acident was caused by some douch crossing the highway and tuning into ur car we culdnt avoid him, so even the best driver in the world cannot judge what everyone else on the road will do!

I remeber lat year paremdics had to pry dead baby from a mother arms, because she refused to beleive he was dead, the baby was flung out the car in a small acident.
Im sure she wishes some one didnt mind their own business

Car are built to crumple these days to absorb the force.

Whenever I've bumped my car on a pole or something, half the bodywork falls off.

Using the car as a jungle gym was lots of fun.

We didn't have internet, ps3's and stuff like that either in thee old days, in case you're wondering.

Well I was 10 years old in 1990. I'm not sure if I cared much for seatbelts back then but my folks did. I then saw a 4 year old projected through the windshield of a car when I was about 17 and I've been pretty emotive since then about the lack child safety some parents have when it comes to cars.

Strange, I had a car seat in the mid 80s. My parents cars also had seat belts, a jumbo Golf and a Cressida. My folks were living in the future!
 
None of our cars had seatbelts in the rear, and some of them didn't even have them in front (bakkies - V8 Chev).
We would stand in the back of a panel van (no seats) and the one who fell over while someone was driving would lose, sit on the sides of a bakkie on the back holding on to the roof, some times even standing upright if the wind didn't knock you over. And this was all before we turned teenagers.
We never wore helmets and we made ramps and obstacles for our BMX gang so daring that the newspaper came over and did a report on it.

Yes, bones were broken, concussions were had, noses were bloodied and a lot of skin was donated to the local tar and dirt roads, and how I miss those days!

BUT, having said that, I have been a lot stricter with my children, they will sit in their seats and buckled up.

:D Quite right that

BUT, let's not forget that 20 years ago in the good old days there was 1/4 of the cars we see on the road today...may be even less.
and that's why we call them the-good-old-days. :sigh: and :whistle:

I miss it too! but life doesn't wait for anybody, it just goes on.
So, catch up people and for the love of god - buckle up!
