I am looking for an ISP that can give me about 1GB of data a month on a 384K line.
It will be used only for browsing, email and maybe some YouTube.
It must be a month to month account. No Debit order. Do not want to send them all my personal info like a copy of my ID.
This is what I have found so far.

Axxess - 1GB – R19
WebAfrica – 1GB - R59
Openweb – 1GB – R19
Nexus - 1GB - R29

Is there any other ISP’s that you know of that I can try.

Perhaps you should buy pre paid that rolls over and then just recharge.

Also one gb is not going to last long watching youtube. O please do not pay 59 bucks a gb  rather buy 3 gb's from axxess

So out of all the ISP's in South Africa Axxess is the best to buy from. Is there no other ?

But why does Afrihost required a copy of you ID if the other ISP's does not.

as its not prepaid the free 1gb, its to verify as you can only use it at 1 location, so you cant make 1000 free accounts

And what about your adsl line ? Isn't that alone R150pm ?
I been thinking about the cell-C option.

So they can still lock your account to 1 telephone line. This still does not explain why they require a copy of your ID.

Why is it a problem to send them a copy of your ID?

Or you some Nigerian Mafia drug lord?

With all the Identity fraud going around I do not trust an ISP with that Info.
As I said. There is no reason that they need that info.

Go to garage, hide under hood and sneakily buy pre paid axxess bandwidth.

Ensure nobody follows you!!!!!!

It makes sense that they will want your ID. In order for them to protect against gly jakkalse and stuff. All ISP's should actually demand proof of ID as they also fall under RICA.

Its not really Rica, I thought the aim of rica was that they can personally see you, like this you can easily fax another person’s id.

I don’t agree with this ISP RICA thing. I can understand that you need to RICA you cell phone as the phone can be carried around. And I think that your Telkom line needs to be RICA and not the ISP that you use.

The only reason that I can think of that an ISP need that info is so that they can take action against you if you do not pay for there services.

The point of RICA is to deal with crimes using communications services. There are plenty of possible crimes that can be committed using an ADSL account and pretty soon all ISPs will do RICA verification before they sell you an account.

Correct, which is why some ISP's are already requesting the information from new subscribers.

Bottom line... subscribe to an existing, established and well known ISP.
