i think you should post all the relevant details in this thread.

I've had exactly the same experience, except mine's been going on since January. Bought the 2 gig Speedstick in November, was fine for two months and in January it all went tits up. I'm in Claremont and I haven't had more than a few day's proper continuous service since then. Also logged countless calls, wrote numerous mails, posted on Hellopeter etc. No improvement. I'm as fed-up as one customer could possibly be. I want a full refund and I want nothing more to do with this company, ever again. And I'm warning every person I know to stay the hell away.

Clearly Southern Suburbs of Cape Town has been heavily over-subscribed. All the UCT students I suppose.

How about this CellC. I give you 20 days to sort out your service. Once that time is up I will go to your head office where I purchased this useless device and claim a refund. With that R3000 I am going to print out the results of my speed test and post all over the UCT campus. Is that a fair challenge?

When I bought the Speedstick prepaid, my thought was 'great! No more broadband costs for 12 months!'

Now I realise that with the prepaid, comes the fact that they don't really care or worry as much : they have their money'

And as for not worrying about broadband for 12 months? That was true for 4 months - but over the last week I've spent close on R1,000 on EXTRA broadband.

So still no clue when a technician can come to my home address ...:p

Randburg is still not fixed the 42mb upgrade lars promised must have broken the system ...it's taking ages to load this forum

Same for me also in Randburg, the internet is actually unusable, took me 5 minutes to post this.

Location: Noordwyk, Midrand (ON LEVER ROAD - VERY CLOSE TO VODACOM WORLD)
Time of issue: past 2 months
Device (Huawei / ZTE): Huawei E1820 (Black Modem)
Contract Type (pre- or post-paid): prepaid.
Existing reference numbers from Helpdesk: gave up with helpdesk.
RAT (2G/3G/HSPA+): between 80 and 96% signal strength HSPA+...less then 1mps...extremely slow.
Cell ID (if possible):
RSSI (if possible):

Any other information relevant to the problem:
Full signal strength, connected but no throughput. Disconnects every few mins, sometimes it refuses to connect at all. Sometimes the modem seems as if it has hung. i.e. blue light on modem remains fixed. Constantly have to disconnect (unplug) and reconnect. (with & without router) . If idle for few minutes, then no throughput again. Same modem tested with vodacom sim works 100% connected for weeks on end. What is going on in the Midrand area?

I'm also in Midrand on Lever Road. Literally 1.5km away from Vodacom Wold. Im having the same problem since the beginning of this year. Constant Disconnects. Gets stuck on Edge. Stays Connected but no throughput. Neotel NeoConnectLight which is like 236.kbps (CDMA I think) is 10 times faster then this.

I am having endless issues with the base station/tower I connect to nighty and its the same RSSI never changes the base station in question CELL ID :11402 and Area The Hill... This problem seems to occur after 11PM - 2am - then I jump to another base station I am unable to have throughput if I do its for a brief moment then I reconnect to the same base station tower without any issues. RSS: -85 but when this problem occurs it jumps to the region of :-99 -101...

Speedstick cmpatibility with netgear router

HI there

Wonder if anyone has a solution for me.

i recently acquired a Netgear router MBRN3000

now if i connect my back speedstick to it, i can connect it to the internet no problem and share my internet connection no problem. but if i connect the newer white modem it does not recognize the device.

Now i have updated the firmware on the router to the latest version possible but still it does not recognize the device.

how can i get this working?

THE AFTER SALES SUPPORT FOR RBM REALLY SUCKS,I CNT EVEN GET THROUGH TO THEIR CALL CENTRE..

Usually the weekends would hold some respite for the cell c internet experience as the past 3-4 weekends were times when i could actually use the internet nicely(atleast 3 mbps DL, this on a black speedstick). This previous weekend it was no different than any other week day, feeling like i'm back in 2000 with dial up, except even dial up usually finished loading a page. And actually, its slower still than dial up, not joking was getting about 1KB- 3 KBs most of yesterday. I know the saying dont try reinvent the wheel, but cell C have actually gone back before the wheel was invented.

Location: Midwood Avenue, Claremont, 7708, Cape Town
Time of issue: Various times since 1st May
Device (Huawei / ZTE): Huawei E1820
Contract Type (pre- or post-paid): Prepaid
Existing reference numbers from Helpdesk: Initial problem (slow download) was reported to [email protected] on 2nd May, but I have had no acknowledgment and, therefore, no reference number.

www.speedtest.net results (if possible):

Example of slow download: http://speedtest.net/result/1276719904.png

Example of slow upload: http://speedtest.net/result/1300007279.png

Any other information relevant to the problem:

Network speeds (upload and download) vary at times from acceptable to awful.

On 1st May at about 1:30am could only get EDGE connection (this is the first time it has happened to me), and since then, there have been a number of occasions when I have had EDGE only connections. I can use MDMA to force “3G only”, but this should not be necessary. I have also noticed frequent switches between Cellids 40081 and 40391 when I do have a 3G connection (RSSI varies from -67dBm to -83dBm).

CellC Rep - Are there any updates on the situation in Southern Suburbs, Cape Town?

Hi guys,

I am having the same issues, live in North Riding, can see the tower (Vodacom) through my window, 98% signal strength and get the speeds lower than the old Edge. That is if I am lucky enough that the DNS server that CellC assigns to me actually resolves the IP.
When I do get some speed I try to talk to my family via Skype and that is when it just goes South, I can understand throtling but I never had issues like this with Vodacom.
CellC, are you going to fix this or should I Whoosh this thing into my rubbish bin and cut my losses. Vodacom is at least delivering on what they promise as slow as that is.
