Hi, im having a problem with my adsl, During my usual browing,im getting a high amount of uploaded bandwith for some unknown reason. Its always slightly less than my downloaded data, for example if downloaded data = 128,134 packs upload = 110,232 packets. Is this normal. if not what could be the problem? any feedback would be most appriciatted,my 3 gig cap is getting killed!

run antivirus scan.
turn on firewall.
have you been fiddling with your MTU settings ?
does this only happen if you are creating traffic.
if your pc is idle, no downloads or email cleints or skype is there any kind of traffic short of the odd blip or two ?

Thanx for the reply. ran latest anivirus scan.
firewall is on
ya it happens when i am creating traffic
not realy uploading alot when pc is idle just when i'm browsing. at the moment downalod is 66 megs and upload is 60 megs,

I downloaded a antispyware and even ghosted my computer back to the original settings and base software and the problem still persists.

No torrents after I ghosted my pc
mabe there is a tool that can tel me what information is being uploaded.

Anyone know of one?

its rather difficult to see whats using what. one dirty way would be by using alt+ctrl+del and whatch what is using cpu speed and growing in megs.. not very accurate but at least its somewhere to start.
also see what's running, maybe something "extra" is in the task list...

Yeah tried that just now.Havent noticed anything unusual besides itunes helper which i never launched myself.

Could it be anything to do with my router settings?

doubt it.(but not impossible)
where is the usage being reflected ? on your network icons or your actual control pannel ??ie telkom network usage ?

On my LAN Network icon and then reflected on my cybersmart usage

Microsoft has a really nice live anti virus scanner, its about 23 meg of traffic but picks up a lot that our so called scanners dont.
when last did you update your windows ?

a while ago but have downloaded the latest service pack i.e 3. but will update windows and try the virus scanner. your help is really appriciated. thanx

STAY AWAY FROM SP3 !!!!!!
you have been warned

Oops, I installed SP3 and just googled "problems with SP3 ?" with numerous problems via PC manaufacturer and other issues. Im running a Mecer Intel Pentirum 2.8ghz notebook on xp pro with sp3 and seems to be all ok.

restart ur pc and dont un any apps...if there is anything that starts up when windoze, close them and wait about 10 minutes...

then goto start > run and enter cmd. When the black window opens, type netstat and paste results here...

you could also install zone alarm, just Google for it. this will also give you some kind of info whats connecting

still no change at the moment, tried everything suggested. can you guys plz post some of your upload and downloaded data in megs so the i have a indication of what it should be during average webpage browsing.

Ps: use your Local Area connection readdings.
Thanx in advance guys the help is really appriciated
