Oi! Leave me out of this...
Were they already turbocharged in those days?
Some yes....
Those generally were sleepers of note... they took the understated looks to the extreme and the thing would absolutely humiliate other vehicles.

Saab produced the first mainstream turbo production car, in the 70's I think.
Ah cool, that's why I ask.
Back on the lowering topic now before someone throws an Eibach coilover at us.

Any here tried cutting their springs? Apparently that's the best way to lower a car. I did it on my civic and now it handles like its on rails.

The car is not the only thing that dropped to the floor. My girlfriends panties also dropped when she saw it.

True story. Could drive the thing for eight hours, and get out feeling as if I'd driven around the block...SAAB had the best seats I ever saw in/on.
Yeah that was a safety thing apparently. No key grinding into your leg in the event of a frontal impact.Don't forget the interesting ignition location.
Use professionals who can f ot a Bilstein or Koenig kit for you. Don't just take it to a tyre shop or you'll regret it. You'll need at least 15k or more. Here's a M6 with a Bilstein kit:

Again lowering a car is easy but not cheap if done properly.
Springs and shocks need to be changed together. The shock stroke needs to match the springs. So only putting in lower springs will effect the oem shocks as it will have a shorter stroke as the shocks are effectively to long for the springs.
So coil over are your best bet. They have a few advantages that the nay say'ers wont understand.
The coil and spring are matched and work together for a better ride.
The ride height is fully adjustable. so from OEM ride height, or higher or very low you can adjust the height to what suits your style or environment.
You can set hardness of the shocks, so from oem to little stiffer to rock hard.
You can set the shocks rebound and movement to improve handling.
go coil over shocks. beat oem any day.
She should buy panties that fit her then instead of the cheap granny panties...
