Hi everyone.

I have to do work off a US server and lately my connection & ping has been bad. This is negatively impacting my work calls.

My isp is giving me 240ms to US server. Is it possible to get less.I heard some ISP's can offer lower pings for overseas servers.
Kindly asking for assistance with whether I can get lower ping locally (Pretoria based) ? Thanks

Very much doubt it. If it were possible it would be... Expensive... very... expensive

What kind of pings are you expecting to get?
240ms to the US sounds pretty normal to me.

You can maybe get lower if you find an ISP that uses SACS, but then you have to hope the traffic to your server is steered over that cable, and it probably wont be that much lower, maybe 20ms lower if you are lucky.

If I remember correctly, @websquadza have or used to have capacity on that Brazil cable? Maybe ping them and see if they can assist?

Sadly not, we also experienced the same issues where most US platforms are designed for East West traffic via the EU, and these didn't adjust well to a more direct route. That said, the latency benefit to US East was marginal at best (there's a long way between Fortaleza, Brazil and the north eastern US states) and US West wasn't much better. To be honest a 5-10% variation at 200+ms won't make as significant an impact as 10-20ms shaved off an EU or Asia route does.

That said, OP can check our looking glass out at https://lg.as328137.net to see if our routes offer any improvements.
