The African Christian Democratic Party also sent its condolences to Dube's family and called for the reinstatement of the death penalty.

Umm, actually not very likely. In fact it may increase the need to ' remove' any witnesses.

As long as the ANC is in power, the death sentence will never return. Do you get that ?
Never ever never ever not going to happen. Ever.

It is immensely sad for us to lose yet another musical icon in such a senseless manner.
Lucky Dube was the biggest selling SA artist - bringing a message of peace, love and harmony.

I cannot believe that Lucky Dube did or would ever support the death penalty.

Do I support the death penalty, no.
Not that I had a problem with Hussein being strung up - I just believe the law is not equal, and humans are fallible. Mistakes cannot be rectified later.... but perhaps the from the ACDP will be of great consolation to those executed in error -

Though the possibility of an innocent person being wrongly sentenced to death does exist, it does not make the Biblical principle of capital punishment invalid. It is the State's responsibility to ensure that an alleged killer is given as fair a trial as humanly possible and only executed if guilt is proved beyond all reasonable doubt.

Since courts are not perfect, mistakes may happen. Consolation can be taken in the knowledge that the accused will also stand before God's judgement seat where perfect justice will be dispensed on the basis of perfect knowledge. The innocent will be vindicated and the guilty condemned.

Beyond reasonable doubt ? Tell that to the 124 prisoners released from death row in the USA alone after evidence proved them innocent.

In 2006, 91 per cent of all known executions took place in China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan and the USA. Do we really want to align ourselves with those countries?

The death penalty is not a punishment.
Locking the bastards up for life is - and by life I mean until they die in their cell.
Extremists will say that is inhumane and doesnt allow for possible rehabilitation. Bollocks.
Lock them up and throw away the key.

Finally is it not ironic that proponents of the death penalty are invariably the same people who support the sanctity of life in unborn ' chldren'.

Pro-life and Pro-death. Go figure.

Yeah, I think the death penalty is pointless. The thing is, the criminals know they probably won't be caught, so why not? If they knew they would be caught that would be a deterrant, death penalty or not.
 
Murder is never good, but as far as I know about 280 000 people have been murdered in this country according to the police statistics of 20 000 per year. Why is this murder so special? Why is throwing boiling water down a victims throat, raping her and then murdering her not as important as this murder. Are we at such a level now that some murders are okay and others are serious? Is this how sick this country has gotten that we are only concerned when celebs are murdered? Does this mean that more celebs should be murdered then maybe the government would take action? Why has a task team been setup to catch these murderers and not for all the other murders?

Here is 5 pages of comments about this one person. What about the rest? Don't they count anymore and are acceptable losses.

Looking at the after effect of this murder, I have to make the assumption that only if more celebs are gunned down the government might take steps to curb violence, because nothing else is moving them. They want us to do our own policing but pay them for the non-service that they are providing.

One thing is for sure and it has been for a long time - it is time to leave this country.
 
Obviously there are more comments about the murder of an internationally renowned musician than the murder of Joe Soap. It doesn't make it wrong or right.
 
we need shariah law in this country. its the only thing that will sort this place.

This is a very important murder... as this is one of the many South African icons being killed. Govt could not care less about joe-soap

and when there are no more musicians or TV programs 'cos all the actors are dead, THEN the Govt has to at itself and say "Where has everything gone?"

Joe-soap can be dismissed as an illegal alien... Lucky Dube cant!

...then again who cares about jack and jill as long as i just go about known people "ooo aaa person x died im so sorry" i can be*in*.

Sure enough its hard to loose someone you know but over hyping the death is just jumping the boot wagen. Then you have t-bone going "eish i'm sorrowed too", rather than actually doing something. nice and safe when you are mp/president - walk the streets like we citizens have to its another world.

the real shocking news is the government caring jackall about the average citizen on the street...

i hope we win the cup it would be really good for RSA's moral

death penalty is going to mean squat if we don't have proper
  • police
  • courts
  • prisons

death penalty only one part of the system as a whole which needs to function properly - without conviction or apprehension its meaning less. Zero Tolerance

I never met God, Eric Clapton, Sean Connery or the Billy Connolly - but I would be sad if they died.

Can you imagine what Jimi Hendrix, Mozart, Steve Biko still had to offer when they died before their time....

I am so sick of hearing people on the news say how bad this killing is for the country... how bad it is for 2020...

Well there is a signed international treaty, forbidding the death penalty from ever being reinstated. It is now contrary to international law, nevermind the RSA legal system.
I think any party asking for the death penalty, unaware than it can't be implemented again, even by the ANC, should not try be a political party.

Anyway, I'm pro death penalty, but also for an extended jail term, like death row.
 
The only good thing about the ACDP is the DP part. I always think organisations which need to put the word "Christian" in their name so others would think they are Christian, rather than because of their actions, are fake. Its just my opinion.

Anyway, so any word on how his son is doing?

Yep, that is a human problem fuelled by hero worship.
Same goes for all the children and poor folk raped and murdered in this country.
 
Wonder when Mbeki will find the time to send condolences to the family of the other 49 victims who died today.
