Lumia 920 beats iPhone 5 hands down

Yeah.

The iPhone 5 was announced last night (19h00 - 20h30 SAT).

Quite frankly, I am disappointed that the new iPhone doesn't offer much competition to the Lumia 920. The whole idea in me rooting for Nokia and Windows is so that competition is kept alive. The lack of it from the latest Apple mobile device is seriously disconcerting for me therefore.

Given that the iPhone 5 doesn't have NFC and wireless charging I believe that it is seriously lacking and is already behind the best smartphones known to humankind right now. Yes, that is what it comes down to - our evolution.

MyBroadband said the new iPhone is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. I think that is a real compliment to the new Apple phone. I think it is not evolutionary at all - it is regression. LTE was the iPhone 5's biggest announcement. How lame can that be?

WMPowerUser concurs with me and gives us a side-by-side comparison of Lumia 920 and iPhone 5 specs here.

Yeah I wasn't really wowed by the iPhone reveal, not because I wasn't looking forward to it but still.
But the fact is that people hate nokia and love Iphone and anything Android.
Just today again, a store manager looked at my Lumia 800 and asked why did I buy that k@k

I second that. Please let us know the name of the store so we can avoid it. I don't want to waste my 920 money on them.

Did a couple of searches on iPhone 5 v Lumia 920 comparisons and the outlook (excuse the pun) is certainly not in iPhone's favor. The webbies are abuzz with anti-iPhone 5 sentiment. It is sad because I really wanted it to be a competitor.

And to think that Nokia is just getting started with the release of its R&D innovations.

But this in no way says that the iPhone 5 won't sell. There are way too many sheep already following Apple.

+1 - I'm definitely upgrading to the Lumia 920 or 820. Still gonna keep my Desire HD though.

Ja, buy 2, will help Apple with sales figures and boost you to Super Cool.....at least in Apples eyes.
 
For some weird reason I think that Windows phones are going to do really well in the next year or two.
 
Is this the same Lumia 920 that doesn't actually work yet and has no release date?

Scheduled for early November I believe but yeah, so damn good it's already touted as an iPhone killer.

I don't get the wireless charging though. Seriously, maybe someone can explain it to me. Instead of a wired charger it makes use of a wired charging matt. WTF is the difference? Doesn't your portable land line telephone do the same thing? IE charge while it's connected to its base?

The net result of Passbook and NFC are the same, might work differently but serve the same purpose.

I remember the horror years back of unplugging my Nokia N95 from its charger only to have bits of the socket on the phone itself remain firmly stuck to the charger's prong... I guess the plug wore out to the point of self-destruction. With current smartphones needing anything from at least one to a couple of top-up charges during the day I think there's a good argument to be made for charging mats. I'll certainly ensure my next phone has the option.

Lol, I dunno. I think we will be replacing one set of evils with another.

Only a mat-ter of time before a guest mistaken's your fancy new charging mat for a coffee coaster and BOOOOOOM!!!!!

What about cross platform compatibility?

Will you need one mat for your Nokia, another for the wifes blackberry and a 3rd for the Nexus tab???

It's already a bloody mess, only likely to get worse!! Irritates me that instead of one universal standard we introducing new ones, new iPhone/920 case in point.

Wireless charging, as I've always understood it meant charging over the airwaves, literally, no wires, no mats, no base stations, complete device portability while charging.... This to me is just more marketing mumbo jumbo BS.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is just a stunning phone, with very advanced features - and, important to me, a camera button! Hooray!

Windows Phone 8 supports USB mass storage device mode now, which is the most important factor for me. I just want to plug my phone into my pc/laptop/Surface tablet? :), see the phone as a drive in Windows Explorer and drag and drop my music, pics, videos and docs onto the phone's storage.

And it will be tightly integrated with Windows 8, which will be another big bonus.

At least as far as charging goes, every manufacturer (except bloody Apple) has been converging on Micro-USB for the last few years. It's quite pleasant (the small pleasures in life, I know) that the wife and I don't have to check whether we're plugging our respective phones into their own chargers or not. To me this is another step forward - it opens up the possibility of eliminating the charging port on the phone completely. I like that idea.

Totally agree that the 920 is the most innovative phone this year.

Personally I love my Android but then I am a tech-head and love to hack things to pieces, use to own an iPhone and looking forward to getting a Windows 8 phone on next upgrade.

Can also complain about shops, had the same reply from Autopage where the sales lady told a friend to avoid Windows Phones at all costs. Friend wanted to upgrade from BB to a smartphone as he had enough of RIM's constant crashing. She told him to pick an iPhone or Samsung S3 instead.
