Based on the above thread on the DStv Forum, the M-Net HD bitrate has dropped from over 12Mbps to just over 10Mbps. Dropped by 2Mbps. That's the amount of bandwidth of an SD channel! That's a massive difference!:mad: I don't know what ever gave MonoChoice the impression that their customers are stupid, because they k.a.k all over us all the time and think we're not noticing.

The resolution is quite low too 480x576 for the Confed Cup. That's the same as MM1 and lower than F24.

Interresting. SS3 is the SD channel on DStv with the highest bitrate. Over 6Mbps.

How do you guys see the bitrate? Is this a function on the HD decoder?

Why don't they get rid of 1 **** channel if they need to save bandwidth. I nominate one of the Happy Clappy channels.

YOU WON'T FREAKIN BELIEVE THIS!!! MultiChoice has deleted the thread on their site exposing their freud!!! I have however saved a link to the site that tracks and monitors the bitrate of the various channels on the PAS7 and 10 satellites.

http://www.satcodx3.com/0685/eng/

Here is a link to a chart I downloaded from that site that indicates how the bitrate of M-Net HD has dropped within a month's time:

This is an exclusive thread people!!! MultiChoice is trying to HIDE this Info!!!
HAHAHAHA!!!

I just went to the thread link you had - I can read your post?

There's an URL in that post - probably got caught by their overzealous spam-catcher.

What codec does that use? MPEG-2? MPEG-4? Other? If it's MPEG-2 that may explain the huge bitrate. MPEG-2 HD requires more bandwidth than MPEG-4 HD (or AVC HD, or VC-1 HD...)

I see the thread has returned to the DStv Forum. Someone there may have seen this thread. When will MultiCrap man up and admit that there is no more bandwidth available on the PAS7/10 satellites and there will NEVER be any more channels available than there is now. Unless of coarse thay can manage to get another satellite up there in the same orbital position, which is technically impossible to do without the given authority by Intelsat who "owns" the current orbital position.

Either they will never add any more channels, or they may have to get permission to launch a new satellite in the current orbital position (which may be impossible), or they have to launch a satellite in a new orbital position and get ALL DStv subscribers to adjust their dishes, which is a logistical nightmare. Either way, if ODM doesn't launch soon we will ALL be screwed.

And that Discovery HD bitrate, it's insane! Double that of M-Net HD!

MNET? What's that? :p

ROLMAO...Indeed, I'm slightly tempted to get DStv but then I can't justify the costs since I hardly watch tv and would rather spend the money on internet downloads.

Back on the HD issue, its actually funny. I watched the recent Lions test at the Fireman's Arms in "HD" and apart from the widescreen (which was nice) the picture looked no different from the run of the mill standard definitition. I was expecting to see much more detail.

How does one define HD? Is it still HD when something is shown in bad quality in 1280X720 resolution? Maybe MultiCrap can be sued over this matter? M-Net HD is basically a widescreen SD channel running over an HDMI cable!!!

Actually, there is quite a bit of bandwith left on Intelsat 7 (what PAS7 is now called). The replacement is due for 2012. It will be a new satellite in the same orbital position, owned by Intelsat. Like they are doing now, Multichoice will buy space on this new satellite

Also, Multichoice has a test transponder up using the 8PSK frequency modulation. This modulation allows for more information on a transponder. In the future, new HD channels will be broadcast using 8PSK.

No need to panic...

The thread has been deleted from the DStv forum again, and the posts shoved into an unpopular unrelated thread. No MC, you won't cover this one up!
