Mac Predictions for 12 Sept

"...Let's just say I have been informed by a little reliable birdy about Tomorrow's event. The line-up will follow this similar structure:

* Welcoming of Media Members
* Discussion on iTunes software, iTMS integration into iTunes, and iTMS sales and facts.
* Announcement of iTunes version 7.0
* Announces better search feature for Music Store
* Announces Movie Store. Available Immediately will be movies from Disney and Pixar, among other studios.
* New iPod Nano Announcement (nice brushed casing, while it will have same features as first gen, only a longer battery life)
* New iPod Announcement (Widescreen, Bluetooth, and featuring virtual touchweel. Does not include Wi-Fi, or any other protocols)
* One More Thing....TubePort. A $99 2-piece set that includes a dongle that connects via USB to your mac, and another dongle that connects via included HD cables or regular Component cables to your TV. The movie is accessed on your Mac via an iDisk-like storage component hosted by Apple.

Jobs will then explain the pricing structure of the Movie Store. Movies will be available as either a smaller iPod-format (which will cost $9.99 per movie), or as a larger, streamed movie to be streamed to your TV via TubePort. This cost $14.99 per movie. To purchase an iPod-formatted movie and a streamed version of the same movie, it will cost you $19.99."

$14.99 per movie? They can kiss my iAss.

Think of the benefits, you dont have to get into ur car to drive to Walmart to go buy a movie anymore. Personally I would rather rent the movie and ripperise!

Ashamed to admit it but I actually like Wal-mart. A massive store, full of everything, open 24/7 - whats not to love. :o

I read a comment from a redneck the other day who said she prefers the dollar stores cause she doesnt have to dress up like when she goes to Walmart.

The Tubeport sounds good.

The leak sounded believable until they mentioned the tubeport.
Totally superfluous piece of kit...you take video from your mac to your tv with a usb cable not the DVI connector?

You stream movies to your tv using tubeport? Why spend $99 on something that could be achieved with a DVI to HDMI cable? There are already DVI to component and s-video adapter cables on the Apple store.

Why bother with Front Row then?

I think this is made-up with guesses about whats going to happen and putting pricing similar to the Amazon movie store.

BobJones : For the simple reason that very, very few people will want to string cables around their house

But at $14.99 a movie, I dont really care. They wont be getting any money from me this time around

I don't get your point? With the laptops and the imac you can just watch your content directly on the screen. If you want to watch it on your tv, you connect your machine to your HD set using the DVI out on your macbook/macbook pro/mac mini/imac and you control the content using the apple remote and front row. (using an adapter if required)
Why would you need a tubeport? You are going to need to run cables for it as well.

If I was worried about cables, then I'd use Bwana's Airport Express with AirVideo™ !:D

BobJones : The TubePort and Airport Express with AirVideo is the same thing. And Airport Express with AirVideo was my trademark :-)

Seems I was right about the minor upgrades to the iPod - now 80GB
Also aluminium Nano's

JStrike : 2
Bwana : 0

The game has begun

11:18 am Get Ready, Get Set, Go! Apple's has been updated to reflect today's announcements.
11:16 am Aside from John Legend's performance, it appears as though the event is over.
11:15 am Engadget: So we'll see you all soon. Oh, we do have one more thing!
All this technology is amazing, but it all comes down to artists because otherwise we don't have anything to listen to or watch.
We like to remind ourselves of that. So today we have a great artist here to perform for us. his name is John Legend. He was nominated for 8 Grammy awards and won 3.
He's got a new album coming out next month called Once Again, so I would like it if you would please joing me in welcoming John Legend
[Legend appears at a full-size piano to sing an acoustic version of Save "Room"]
11:14 am MacCentral: Jobs closed the event with a live performance by Grammy-winning musician John Legend.
11:11 am iLounge: John Legend has a new album next month (Legend slides on sage via moving platform)
11:10 am iLounge: It all comes down to the artists

11:01 am iLounge: iTV lets you get access to trailers and itunes store selected content from internet
11:01 am MacCentral: The software features 3D animated graphics with a menu on the right and graphics on the left. Jobs demonstrated it, going into the Movies menu and scrolling through floating artwork on the left-hand side.
10:59 am iLounge: Video looks very close to DVD quality even on a huge theater sized projector
10:58 am iLounge: Video access is instantaneous, looks like watching a DVD
10:57 am Engadget: It looks like this {a flatter Mini} it's called iTV. That's a codeword. we need to come up with a better name.
10:57 am iLounge: Interface is like next gen front row
10:56 am iLounge: 1/2 size of Mac Mini, built-in power supply, USB, Ethernet, 802.11 "wireless component video", optical audio and HDMI ports, plus old RCA stereo audio ports. Works with Apple Remote
10:54 am iLounge: Like a Mac Mini... iTV is its name (not final).
10:53 am iLounge: Apple is releasing its long-rumored set-top box in Q1 2007. It will be Wireless
10:52 am iLounge: You can take content to computer or iPod, but now... TV
10:52 am iLounge: Q1 2007 "Completes the story"
10:51 am iLounge: One last thing, an unusual sneak peek
10:51 am iLounge: Steve is wrapping up. Thanks to engineering and other departments.
10:50 am MacCentral: Iger called Disney and Apple's first partnership to bring TV shows to the iTunes Store last year "a breakthrough," and added that "the marriage of great content and great technology -- and of great user interface -- is truly a killer application."
10:47 am iLounge: Bob Iger of Disney takes stage, and recaps what Jobs has already said
10:45 am MacCentral: we HOPE to take this international in 2007. (see the difference?)
10:42 am Engadget: So: Movies

10:41 am iLounge: Dolby surround audio in videos
10:40 am iLounge: Near DVD quality. Same encoding as TV shows at 640x480. If you have a 5mb/s broadband connection, it will take approximately 30 minutes to download a movie (yeah frikken right Steve, if only in SA)

10:36 am iLounge: "one more thing..."
10:34 am iLounge: Video on screen now markedly higher resolution
10:33 am correction: it appears as though the nano's packaging is 52% smaller, not the nano itself.
10:31 am iLounge: Demo of iTunes 7
10:31 am 10:27AM Engadget: You can update your iPod from right inside iTunes now, you don't need to go to Preferences. You can say, "I want to sync the 10 most recent unwatched episides of all my TV shows."
10:30 am Engadget: Now, all of this video is encoded with the best encoding in the world, H.264. We've been distributing it at 320x240. Today, we're going to take that up a notch to 640x480. That's 4x the resolution. iTunes 7 also has seamless playback for video.
10:30 am iLounge: you can now sync between multiple computers using an iPod, as long as both are authorized on the same account
10:28 am Engadget: Today we're introducing the biggest single enhancement: iTunes 7
You say "it looks the same," but it isn't
[the left nav is more cleanly organized without being radically different]
We've added a View switch, a 3-position switch. we've added a 2nd view called album view, so you can scroll through your music library and look at it by album. what if you ripped your CDs and don't have the covers? Today we're announcing free missing album cover art for all the music in your library if you have an itune acct. itunes will automatically download it for free
