Hi there.

Many shops seem to be selling Macs these days but there also seems to be complaints about bad service. This thread is for us to list Mac stores that we have visited which have given us nothing but bad service.

List the store here and hopefully the "experience" next time you visit will be improved.

:D:mad::o:sick::confused::cool::rolleyes::p

iStore (surprise...!) Clearwater Mall : repeatedly enquired about 15" sleeves over a period of 3 months - they couldn't be bothered to get some. Also requested a quote on upgrading a MBP hard drive and RAM, they didn't respond in any way, so I just did it myself. They seem to be generally clueless about what they sell, and I don't attribute this to a specific sales person, as I had personal dealings with at least 3 different ones.

iStore Clearwater mall, this week-end i decided that i'm too impatient to go thru the whole process of ordering a macbook online, having them send it to my friend in the states, finding out her address, getting her to send it to me as a gift.. blah blah blah..

so i decided to go to the istore in clearwater mall as it is closeby to where i stay :o .... walked in with my girlfriend and well i researched the machine quite alot so i really had no questions, all i wanted was for someone to take one out for me and i'd pay and leave with my new macbook.... i walk in and one salesman is helping an "elderly" couple... the rest were just chatting with each other etc.

so i decide to keep myself busy till someone decides to help me and i play around on the macbook on display there whilst ocassionally looking around for someone interested in helping me.... about 5 to 10 minutes pass and my girlfriend and i decide to leave, seeing as we clearly didn't look like people worth helping.

i'm actually glad this happened, gives me more reason to go thru with the purchase from the states idea which will save me like 4k anyways.

The point of the thread ? does that mean all the other iStores are ok until one customer has a bad experience and posts it on this thread and makes the **** list ?

I bought my Mac Book PRO from the Menlyn branch had absolute excellent services from them, I was in the VA store March and also had great service, that can't be right ?

Perhaps the thread should address good service as well...

(A) AppleWorm: No problem ordering a Mini online. Found it, ordered it, paid it, got it - all chop chop at a reasonable price one would expect for outgoing model
-vs-
(B) Clearwater iStore: Journi has been stopped by Griffin like 2 years ago. Dion wired price was R899 vs iStore "annual sale" price of R1299. I brought it to their attention and the manager said "Bring me proof of that price and I will discount it for you" to which I replied "Would the invoice from Dions suffice, since they are not asking me to prove your price?"

Dumb Asses!

The point of the thread ? ...

My guess would be to give potential Mac store customers a way to check which stores have a reputation for bad service, so that they can avoid frustration.

It's already highlighing an issue - 75% of respondents have had crappy service from iStore Clearwater Mall.

But yes, positive reports would, in my opinion, make this thread even more usefull.

great apple stores

Well I have only had great service in the following Apple Stores- Sydney, NY, Boston, Miami & Singapore. I have always looked forward to a visit to the Apple Store.

I walked into the Clearwater, JHB store last year, but only lasted 3 minutes as the sales people did not have a clue! Very poorly trained and lacking motivation. The difference was like night & day.

Core will never be able to produce the same service seen in the proper Apple Stores, because they lack the passion and are only interested in bottom line!

The point here is to highlight the bad service therefore if a store is not listed then obviously no-one has had a problem with it. This is to ensure somehow that we can get some good service from Mac stores.

There's no stopping anyone from posting a good experience, even from the iStore Clearwater mall.

Maybe we should have a BAD SERVICE REPORT website for all stores in SA, hopefully that could prompt store owners to buck up their sales people.

I've found overseas PC hardware stores and Apple stores to have clerks who are not significantly better than our own. However their prices are cheaper, they usually throw in something extra and you get some extra value eg a course with the purchase.

The sad reality boils down to resources.

Your iStore experience will only be as good as the person who provides you with the services. I have seen both sides of the coin. I've been to some iStores and recieved dreadful service (if any) but then go to iStore in Clearwater for example and got assisted by a competent "Mac Genius" who shared my enthusiasm for all things Mac.

The fault here lies with Core not hiring competent, hard working, Mac "geeks" or loyalists but rather whoever fits the "profile" I also believe the lack of high quality staff training greatly contributes to this.

So to with the above said, I am sure there are some FEW great staff members that work for iStore/Core and that they can greatly improve the perception that the public has on the retail outlets but I still believe that the unfortunate majority of the iStore staff are not capable of providing that "first world" service that the Apple Stores overseas are so famous for and what we all refer to as... The Apple Experience...
