**** knows
are you not sick of this stupid argument?
On CLICK and various different sources I hear mac is better than windows because it does not crash and windows in better than mac because it does not crash:confused:

MAC users say that they can make music and touch up photies and bla bla bla ....
Windows can do exactly the same, it all depends on the software!
Movies like ice age and alike was done on windows AMD based machines for heavens sake. It could have been done on a mac as well with a 3d studio like software.

There is no diff, its all software.
if your machine keeps crashing with blue screens and the like its probably because you have a crappy moby or faulty ram or something.

Here is the thing...

They say that linux and mac were built more robust than windows... hence linux and macs dont get viruses...

yet that is a bull theory... as the reasoning is that so few people use linux and mac, that attack software is not made for it.

mac and linix dont crash as often, as there arent many compatable software packages and malicious packages to screw up your pc...unlike windows...

therefore you cant compare the two...

end of the day, windows is more user friendly and compatible.
the only reason its not as robust, is that you have a far larger variety of things to do on a windows box.

Windows wins because it hold the gaming market. Also hardware and upgrades are easier and cheaper in windows

None wins - it's not really a competition. Have one of each! Much more fun that way. Anyone for Amiga's Workbench?

None wins.

It's more of ones preference and what he is going to use it for

rwenzori and boramk are right... if you dont like using your computer to game with,

None wins.

It's more of ones preference and what he is going to use it for

see, that is what I was talking about. both can do exactly the same thing
it is not a matter of ' what he is going to use it for ', both can do the same thing.

Im so not repeating myself. wcoetzee... no.. they dont do the same thing. There are some things windows can do, that mac cant. kapish?

windows and mac can do axcectly the same thing.
its all electronics and software,

That's not true. Even when it was true, in the days of PowerPC macs
the Mac lasted longer than its counterpart PC and it had a higher
resale value afterwards. Compare a Mazda and a Mercedes.

Secondly, nowadays PC and Mac prices are more or less the same.
In fact if you take a top of the range type laptop - a Sony Vaio say
you will pay MORE for it than a similarly equipped Mac Book/Pro.

Finally productivity software is cheaper on the Mac. Apple's Pro
software is cheaper than competitors. For example Apple
bought a software program called Shake which was used in
post production of features such as King Kong and Lord of the
Rings. Before Apple bought the package out, it cost like $25.000
to $100.000 per licence, it currently retails for R4000 as
an Apple product.

Secondly YOU can run Windows on a Mac. You can do it with bootcamp
which also manages Windows updates for you on its own and
you can also run Windows apps on a Mac AT THE SAME time
if you use VMWARE Fusion or Parallels Desktop.
So you can play any 3D game or run anything a PC can.

For high end equipment Macs are not even similarly priced.
Xeon based PC workstations cost more from retailers like
Dell than from Apple. The quality of the case (no wires or
plugs) and its 1 KW power supply is pristine. You have 5 fans
which are so silent the only thing which disturbs the quiet are
your mouse clicks.

Mac OSX is based on UNIX which kicks NT's butt. I've used Windows
XP since 2001 and after using Mac OSX I prefer the latter OS,
and forget about Vista.

So yeah PCs are fun and work great for games but if you really
want to do something productive on your machine and then get
out and play productively - instead of BSing around with jumpers,
BIOS settings, registry and whatever else fails in Windows.

Viruses? Well Mac OSX, Unix and Linux are just MORE secure.
They don't give the user full access to everything for example
- ie don't run Admin by default.

Macs are superior boys and girls, this comes from a Windows user
who's been Windows since 1992.

Leopard costs about R1000 while Vista costs what? R2000-3000?

I admit that some Mac users may act like arrogant p_ssies sometimes
but for me the conclusion above comes from using both systems
and just having far less frustration with the Mac.

Actually all are equally prone to attacks because all are predominantly written in C/C++, which doesn't provide much protection against buffer overflows. An attacker can smash the stack by overflowing any specific buffer by overwriting the return value.

Windows just appears more prone to attacks because attackers would rather target an OS with a higher install base. Anyway back on topic, yeah they can all do the same thing.

My problem with Mac stems from the fact that they acted so superior with their PowerPC stuff and had all these graphs showing how much "faster" it was. Dodgy marketing...

I dont care much about the current Windows vs OSX, or Mac vs PC thing.

Just a couple of comments...

(BTW, why was your post word-wrapped?)

For some PCs, you may pay more...but you won't find Macs at the low end of prices, or at the high end. If you want a really cheap computer, or if you want something really tricked-out, Apple has nothing for you.

If you're booting Windows on Mac hardware, you're not exactly getting the Mac experience, are you? And can you play the latest games under VMware or Parallells?

So yeah PCs are fun and work great for games but if you really
want to do something productive on your machine and then get
out and play productively - instead of BSing around with jumpers,
BIOS settings, registry and whatever else fails in Windows.

Jumpers? BIOS settings? People don't tinker with those when they buy PCs! Anyway, I can't even remember when last I used jumpers on a modern PC.

Viruses? Well Mac OSX, Unix and Linux are just MORE secure.
They don't give the user full access to everything for example
- ie don't run Admin by default.

Vista does that too.

Leopard costs about R1000 while Vista costs what? R2000-3000?

Eh? Depends on the version of Vista, but it ranges from R600 upward.

U can't really argue about it, untill u're familiar with both systems.

Linux users are bigger fanboys than mac users, that seems to be a total lifestyle change.

I don't really prefer one above the other, although I'll admit Windows does crash a fair bit more than Linux :D

If you're booting Windows on Mac hardware, you're not exactly getting the Mac experience, are you? And can you play the latest games under VMware or Parallells?

No you are not, but it still runs faster on a Mac.

And yes, you can use either VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop to play games

The PowerPC range was always faster than the latest from Intel. It was also more efficient when it came to memory addressing. Intel copied the idea of RISC and stole the lead. When IBM took a back seat, Apple decided to change to Intel to give their customers the fastest processor. Quite logical if you think about it.
