Only know part time students I think you need to be FULL time if I'm not mistaken?
Part time students can buy.
You need proof of registration and a student card.

So my options at the moment are as follows:

Macbook Air 11
Too small!

Macbook Air 2012
cons:
Too pricey for what people want secondhand

Macbook Air 2013 at R14000
pro's:
Latest model
Haswel with best battery life out there
weight
portability

Cons:
price

Macbook Pro MD101
Pros:
Larger hard drive
readily available
some at decent price, +-R2500 cheaper than Macbook Air 2012/2013 model
ethernet
upgradable?

Cons:
weight and screen, also looks bulky but it is the pro version.

FWIW - love my MBP mid-2012. Solid all-rounder imo. The fact that I am able to (and will shortly) be able to install my own 1 TB fusion drive, with 16gb RAM, has me so pleased I never went for the MBA. Each to their own, but if the price is right, it's always going to be a reliable choice. My 2 cents.

Do you have this model?

R11500 seems like a decent deal?

think ill go for it, I like the idea of being able to upgrade, what sort of battery life do you get?
Any annoying issues with this model?

Bought the MD101, saw some good reviews, best price around by far judging on research.
Bonus is its new with all goodies inside.

Congrats. Post reviews of the BOB transaction/seller here.

Well done! Looking forward to hearing what you think of it! How long before delivery?

Hope to have it on Monday or Tuesday, on looking around it is very cheap seeing as it's brand new.
Hope there's nothing wrong with it

I've almost pushed the button a number of times...saw a rMBP at a client again...wow!!!

Couple of questions -

1) Does the Windows virtual environment work well e.g. for Pastel etc.

2) I have a Windows media server - is it easy to connect the two for backups, copy files, access shared drives?

I'm considering the 13" rMBP...although the 15" is also starting to look appealing.

Enjoy - I have the previous gen model (with the Intel HD Graphics 3000 and the 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7) and have been pleased with the performance. I recently removed the superdrive and installed an ssd in it's place. Next upgrade will be taking the RAM from 8gb to 16gb.

Congrats! You've certainly done your research on this one! Let us know what it's like when you receive it (as if you're NOT)
