Think you will be able to use the Thunderbolt with a converter [Minidisplay <> DMI], so should be able to run 2nd display without issues. Others would be better placed to comment on the performance, having never had a MBA myself.

With absolutely no basis for saying this, other than a 'gut feel' :) - looks like a good deal to me!

This looks like it could be the 2012 model, serial number is usually the best way to confirm this. Also keep in mind that RAM is not upgradeable (re it's part of the main logic board), also the SSD is not a standard hard drive, but you can upgrade this with a "special" order from a few places.

Overall the MBAs pack a lot of power into small factor, which is the reason they've been so popular, but the Intel Graphics card is certainly not a top performer; yet it's perfectly adequate for most things, except possibly gaming (many still work though), also 4Gb RAM can be a little pressing when you run Parallels, but it can be worked around by limiting the number of apps you keep open.

Re parallels, Windows 7 should perform great, especially with the new Parallels 9 performance enhancements.

You probably know this, but I'll cover it just in case you didn't.

1. Make sure they're reputable seller, focus on any negative customers.
2. Try to only use a reversible, guaranteed and/or escrow type payment service, so that if there is any problems you can get your money back.
3. Check on the warranty; will it be covered by core? If not get them to explain exactly how the process works.
4. Getting the Serial number is always a good thing as you can prior to any payment, confirm the manufactured specs match the advert, and secondly you can easily check on delivery that you have the right one. I like this website for this lookup: http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.htm

Other than that check for specials with iStore, zastore, Incredible, ... I think they might have discounted this older model recently to clear stock -- if memory serves me at all; I think it could have been prices closer to R10,000
 
they say warranty is covered by them of 1yr, waiting for reply if it's the 2013 model.

That model number indicates it is a 2012 model, but the specs say it has the GPU from the 2013 model and the CPU from the 2012 model. I would make 110% sure you have that serial number before you do anything.
 
Staying away from those guys I think.

Got quote from Makroshop (wantitall) for Macbook Air 11 for R12 703 including delivery.

But they can't confirm its 2013 model.

I have been playing around with a Macbook air 13inch 2012 model, guy in office let me play around with it and install parallels 9 and windows 7 Ultimate, I must say I am very impressed at how seamless it is running side by side (Windows 7 and Mavericks).

Impressed at how far ahead the touch pad is compared to my Dell.

Compared to EVERYTHING.


I don't find it surprising at all when people say they despise using a touchpad because they are shockingly crap on everything but Apple products.

Does apple refresh it's macbook line every year, I would think the next refresh of the macbook air range would be more storage, ram?

Which one are you referring to that has been confirmed 2013 model? If you wanting the 11 inch then the base model 2013 edition is R12999 from istore and presumably other stores that stock apple products. As mentioned by myself and others earlier, be very careful when buying Macbooks off BoB - I myself was robbed and got something different to what I initially ordered and fair to say BoB were not the most helpful in sorting it out. So rather spend the extra R500 - R1000 and get the confidence that it is what you paid for and has the full warranty ect... just my 2 cents.

The get refreshed every year but the RAM and Storage has remained the same for the last 3 years - except for this year they dropped the 11 inch 64SSD model so the new base model comes with 4GIG ram and 128GB SSD.
