Perhaps there is a difference between generic and third party as the Kenko site states:
The photo's on that link were taken with fotogen tubes, But he does mention kenko as an option. Good to see that generic companies are offering the same features at lower costs

Just for the record, there is no problem with communication between the camera and the lens with Kenko tubes (AF, setting the aperture or the other info that the lens passes onto the camera). I seldom use AF with macro work, but I do rely on the exposure info.

It's just sad that they've gotten so expensive. I paid around R700 for mine off ebay. I see the current going price in SA seems to be around R2k

Bwana posted a set from B&H for $169, but I guess after tax and import duties, your looking at the same price as local then

The irony is that the oke I bought from in Hong Kong labelled the tubes as second hand, so I paid no duties on them (luck of the draw I suppose).

BTW, those orb web spiders look as though they could make good subjects for you as they get bigger! I like the button lunch too :D

Hmm, I must get my things sent to me then as second hand next time :D

The orbs are pretty big already (at least one of them, She is about the size of a cig packet). I really wish I had a decent setup to try photograph them. Which is one reason I want to try with the tubes. Dont have a decent 1:1 macro lens either yet, and cash is very very tight right now (more like non-existant actually). Claire forgot to ask her Dad yesterday. So I think I might have to drop her brother a call and see if he can help me out.

Lovely shot!

:) thanks, was running around with a sigma 70~300mm lens and saw the bugger coming in for a landing... took a good couple of shots to get this half descent one! They just don’t stay still...

Due to the lack of butterflies I went for bees :

Has anyone noticed the reasonably good macro performance you get from high end phones like the Nokia N82?
I guess their short AF lenses are good for something after all ;)

This is about as close as I feel comfortable getting to bees

Yeah - scanning bar codes for instant online price comparisons. Someone needs to come up with a SA implementation to give consumers a better edge.

Nice pics though. One day they'll be putting sensors and glass in that are good enough to rival some of the point and shoots. Until then good composition is even more critical.

Nice pic! Same here - I end up in hospital everytime they sting me, luckily last time was 10 years ago. My shot was taken at about 12x zoom :D

You know to much about what I do at work everyday.

The N86 is a major step up from the N82 in terms of sensor pixel count and sensitivity. I just hope the glass also gets better. Can't wait to play around with it. But I must confess, a cheap Canon A4xx with super macro does still have the edge over camera phone macro.
