Nice snaps - just goes to show what you can do with a good eye and a proper lens. I'll have to put one on my shopping list

We say the yellow mantis in the house a couple days ago and turfed him out - he's probably still hanging around outside :)

Not bad - what did you shoot it with?

Have you considered a flickr account - the gallery is nice, and convenient, but you often have to sacrifice something to get it under 150kb.

Macro photography is close-up photography; the classical definition is that the image projected on the "film plane" (i.e film or a digital sensor) is close to the same size as the subject.

Would a larger-than-life photo of something qualify?

Is it a close-up?

Closer than I wanted....

I have done absolutely nothing so far in terms of setting up flickr, just signed up and added the photo here.

Now if you had that nifty-fifty . . . . :D

All things in good time... I think my next lens will probably something much shorter. The 10-20 or the Sigma equivalent maybe.

Kinda cheated by cropping it a bit, but when I went back to do it properly all the blossoms were gone :(

Like I said, I cheated. But, it was pretty close, and on the original it is about life size, so as per the criteria in your original post it does qualify ;)

This was taken with the Pentax K100D Super and the 18-55mm kit lens at 55mm. Not exactly a macro but I went as close as it would focus. A tiny little too close, actually...

For the Canon I ended up buying the 24-105mm f/4L IS - it has a "macro" printed on the lens towards the closer end of the focus window, and it can focus pretty damn close. I haven't taken anything macro worth showing yet, though.

Found a macro attachment for an old lens I had so glued on a empty filter ring and bob's your uncle macro 50mm without reversing. :)

(For a sense of perspective it would fit comfortably on a 10c coin.)

Handy :D

One day I'll buy the lens kits for my camera and have so much fun :D

Either that or buy a real camera and have done with it.

I like the DIY aspect - everything doesnt have to mean major bucks.

Took this yesterday during our outage - I was chasing them around the garden when my missus questioned if I was allergic or not - I couldnt answer for sure either way . . . so I stopped chasing. :D
