and the Samsung 50" Plasma at R11999-00? Very tempting... damn...

That's a full HD plasma and 50 inches is big enough to get you that cinema experience for the average lounge. It's a good deal, that 50 inch.

FullHD 50" Samsung Plasma for 12k? LOL.... not anytime soon mate :p
 
So would one get the 47" Sinotec LCD for R12k or the 50" Samsung Plasma for R12k?!! I have HD PVR but is there that much of a difference? I've noticed a significant difference between the picture on my 3 year old Pvision plasma and 32" Sinotec LCD (LCD a lot sharper) but the Samsung would be a very different proposition? no?

And why not just the Sinotec 42" LCD at R8k, R4k cheaper than the other 2, R4k is a fair amount of loot..
 
Yesterday at Stax I watched the same programme on A 42 inch LCD HD set as against the Samsung 42 inch Plasma.The Plasma did not blur standing obliquely to the set while the LCD set did.I therefore purchased the Plasma at Game today but will only take delivery tomorrow or Monday due to a personal family problem.I will report back.I rate Plasma against LCD anytime.Perhaps a personal preference.

it's bigger, and WAAAAY better quality if you're gonna use it for TV use!

only get the 42" Sinotec if you're gonna use it for PC - and the 47" would be too big.

I reckon you're gonna useit for TV, so once again, Get the Sammy !

(and go big - buy it once and its done - 4k aint so bad - 8 inches bigger is HUGE (Remember, it's vertically 8" bigger!)
 
What is the image scaling like on the Sinotec? I've heard the scaler is one of the sub par components they use to keep the price down.

When I did my research it seemed it uses the same as Samsung, LG et al - one of the reasons I decided to take the plunge. I'm trying to find the information now again, but the brain is a bit rusty... going back more than a year... :o

I'm not as convinced as you are of the Samsung being that superior to the Sinotec and 1 year vs 5 year warranty?!!!! ooooh...

Okay.

I took the Sinotec back today.
Struggled to see the Boks pummel the AB because of motion blur and also bad color and contrast. So I took it back to Makro and they wanted to swop it out for me.
Took some time and talked to 3 different salesmen. 2 of them confirmed that they had the most returns on the Sinotec brand.
Also the guy at returns asked rather amused: "Another one?" when he heard it was a Sinotec being returned.

So I decide to get the Samsung instead. Paid in a R1000 difference and took home a 42" Samsung Plasma. Makro's price was R9500 but they gave it to me for R8999. Same price as Game.

Extremely happy with the swop. Color looks better, contrast is better. No motion blur. And according to the fiancee it looks better in our home. She loves the swivel stand :rolleyes:
It also starts up 10 times faster than the Sinotec. With the Sinotec it first gives you a black screen and then for about 5 seconds a "Please Wait" screen. Only then does it search for a signal and shows the picture. With the Samsung it is almost instant picture and sound.

I'm not saying all the Sinotec's are gonna be like this but what if it happened again after I swopped it for another Sinotec? If it was after 14 days I would have been without a TV for days.

As for the 5 year warrantee? Well done Sinotec, nobody can beat that.

Just complete conjecture & personal opinion, but here goes:

I wouldn't buy a Sinotec plasma. I think it is ultimately a more challenging technology to master, and I don't think a 'budget' plasma is a great idea. I am very happy with my LCD and I think the fact that is a volume technology (with Sinotec's own factory in China undoubtedly churning out panels for name brands) plays to its benefit.

I had hoped your experience with the Sinotec plasma would be different, but I'm not altogether surprised.
