Johannesburg - ANC Youth Leader Julius Malema has spoken out against "misrepresentations and lies" spread through newspapers, and has clarified allegations against him.

The Youth League called a media conference on Monday after media reports that Malema's lavish lifestyle was being bankrolled by lucrative government contracts awarded to companies he has interests in.

The Sunday Times reported that Malema's companies were awarded more than 20 contracts, worth between R500 000 and R39m between 2007 and 2008.

Malema said he was not going to "dignify these misrepresentations and lies" with comment, but said he needed to clarify allegations so that ANC supporters are not fed wrong and misleading information.

Nothing to hide

Malema said he has nothing to hide, and wanted to "put the record straight".

He added that he had resigned from all companies he was involved in when he assumed his position as president of the ANCYL in 2008, and has not been involved in any illegal tender processes.

He pointed out that his property is being financed by a bank loan, and that he owns one car - a Mercedes Benz C63. He also mentioned that his salary is more than R20 000 per month, as reported.

Malema threatened to take legal action over the allegations against him.

The media conference was also used as an opportunity to clarify the ANCYL's policy on the nationalisation of mines.

If this is true, we all owe Julius an apology!

No we don't owe the twat an apology.

So what is his salary then, to be able to afford R4.3m in property? That would mean that his bond repayments border on around R40k per month over a 20 year period. And considering that your bond repayments must be at most 1/3 of your gross, that would indicate that he earns at least R120k per month, which is more than the president of the country! I call bullsh*t.

I hope he takes legal action, which would lead to a financial audit on him in order to prove his innocence from the allegations.

You would have to be really really stupid to believe anything this guy says.

The wheels on the gravy train go round and round ...... round and round....

bla bla bla ... people in political parties and government should not be allowed the opportunity to do business with the government. He's corrupt, living off the masses hard earned money. I hope he can sleep well at night...

He sleeps well every night alright. When he finished the grayfisf, prawns and whaever together with the huge following of "friends" and "family" then he has to sleep it off while those he claim he represents and care about maybe had some dry Putu for the evening, IF they were lucky on the day. Malema is an Fascist pig and so all his cronies with him.

No explanation for the preferential treatment in securing government contracts for his companies.

He is just another ANC scumbag.

Sad thing is the masses will not be outraged at Malema's lavish lifestyle but instead be impressed at how a fellow comrade has made it big. He must know what he's doing so they'll vote for him

I see Malema used some big words :p

such a joke... i mean really...

the only problem is that all the uneducated people will believe him (60% of the Country! and looking at our matric rate, its counting up!)

just wish be can be brought to book... cous i dont think there is a judge that is strong enough to take him on... considering that JZ bows to Malema, and JZ got off. I doubt that Malema will ever see the inside of a jail cell.

Did you guys hear how he was reading a speach for once. Some PR manager is covering for him.

Say what ??

He gets his salary from the ANC (well he is supposed to), which is from donations and membership fees to the ANC (and our tax money that gets put in the ANC coffers). Yeah so the very people he is supposed to help are the people he is stealing from.... and us!

Forget the issues... if you dont like 'The African Solution to the African Problem' - phone the Presidential hotline, shout until you are blue in the face, nothing will change. If you dont like the 'Culture', then you need to find one you are happy with.

Malema is here to stay.. get used to it.

On morning live this morning he confirmed this. Some reporter asked him over the weekend about how he affords it and he shouted the ANC pays me more thatn they admit..

OK he resigned as an office bearer, but did he retain his high dividend paying shares?

Well then that is fraud, they must be lying to SARS about how much they pay him

Has Tokyo Sexwale resigned from his businesses? Don't they get an unfair advantage by being headed by a cabinet minister ?
