Man in court for avoiding e-tolls

No, this article here on MyBB is BS!

He is not in court for 'avoiding etolls', he is in court on charges of fraud for manipulating his number plate. The state only threw in some additional charges to see if they will stick.

That is what I thought.

But he didn't refuse?

He fiddled with his numberplate which is a criminal offence.

Correct.

They did not even need to involve sanral in the charges, as any police officer could have opened the case, on behalf of the state. This is just a poor attempt at further fud by sanral. A sly attempt to see if the additional charges of refusal to pay etoll fees would stick...

It's articles like this, that give decent reporting a bad name.

Yarr, attempted scare tactic for the masses refusing to pay

etolls ... making more criminals and cheats than golf

If he is ordered to "pay back the money" by the honourable court, then does that ruling establish the etoll payment precedent that sanral hopes for?

Unfortunately, yes, although it will not be a precedent case though. If the additional charges of refusing to pay e-tolls is upheld and he is convicted thereof, it will open the doors to sanral scum to start targeting those who never paid. This is why they wanted to jump on this bandwagon.

That's what they are hoping for - a method to sidestep the first real non-payment case. JPSA will probably end up appealing the sentence and bog it down for a year or so.

well they said they would that.....so should be anytime now

The more I think about this, with a good attorney, he may even walk away from the fraud charges and be convicted on lesser charges related to the number plate manipulation. The fact is, did he change the number plate before riding the toll roads and then change it back to the correct one after he got off? Is there evidence or witnesses to that?

If not, what if he admitted that he manipulated the plates as he gets threatening messages from unknown people and did not want people to see his real plates? If so, they would never be able to prove that he wanted to defraud sanral, and this simply based on the fact that he drives everywhere with the fake plates.

Driving with fake plates alone does not amount to fraud.

F***k . I stopped where it says he fiddled with number plates, that's where his problem is not the e-tolls
