Pretoria – Despite some getting comic relief from the video widely circulated of a man pulling away a traffic light, many people on social media platforms expressed sympathy for him.

The video has been getting reviews, including many pointing out that the man’s predicament mirrors South Africa’s joblessness crisis where people are going to extremes to survive.

Others said nothing could shock residents as they have become accustomed to high levels of crime.

Costing millions in infrastructure. Since Zuma riots this is become especially worse in KZN. Municipality fix it one week, next week it is gone. Some say it is specifically organised for the tenders.

The Joburg Roads Agency (JRA) also shared the 17-second video, appealing to residents to refrain from vandalising critical infrastructure.
Are they suggesting the guy vandalised it? To me it looks like a car hit it.

EDIT - hope the guy wasn't dragging it home to fix it like it was a burst water pipe...

Vandalizing sounds better than stealing.... we do not steal in SA.

Are you saying its ok to steal that irrespective of the circumstances?

JRA probably left it just laying around for days and haven't even started to procure, never mind put up a replacement ASAP and gone after the vehicle owner or their insurer.

My take on this is that with unemployment, people will do whatever it takes to get a few shekels.

The question is ............... where does one take such a collectable to sell?

It looks heavy the way he is dragging it, so that's probably valuable steel.
