Hi guys

I am new to Linux and a total newbie, trying to get around the new experience. What would u guys advise
as a simple linux distro to experiment with seeing that I've been with Windows all my life?

I hve downladed Mandriva + Mint - are they good starts ? I am however finding it hard to connect to the
internet via my 3G USB modem, finding, loading software etc

Would appreciate your advise or direction to resources

thx

Mint is really just ubuntu with a few extra things- such as mp3 support pre-installed. Out of those you downloaded, that is probably the better of the two to start with, although ubuntu is releasing their latest version in 7 days time. I would suggest moving to that, as with each new release a lot of old issues are sorted out.

to download software- go to applications>software center, select what software you want to get and click install.

linux takes a little getting used to, especially out of a windows environment, but you will not look back.

Mint is a really good start. However I also recommend you hold out for a few more days until the new Ubuntu is released. I've been using it since early in its development cycle (Alpha versions) and it is shaping up to be an amazing release. :)
