South Africans dumping DStv Premium — but they may be back

DStv Premium subscribers cut the cord or downgraded to cheaper packages in 2020 because of the absence of rugby, MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela told investors during a webcast last week.

Mawela said that as rugby returns, so will these DStv Premium subscribers.

Although MultiChoice does not disclose its DStv Premium subscribers, its latest results showed a decline of 8% in its premium segment — Premium and Compact Plus bouquets.

The average revenue per user in the premium segment declined from R588 to R580 per month.

Calvin is a bit disconnected from reality here. How many subscribers left the country, or found other ways of streaming the sports they wanted to watch? F1TV being an example.
Maybe a reality check is in order?

Will say this every time appreciate what you have, Just to watch the Euro's got hit with what essentially is an extra R340 over and above the sport package I already subscribe to just before it starts.

Hate to admit it, but he's correct.

Will all the lockdown nonsense, folks will have little choice but to watch the games on TV. I won't be surprised if MC actually lobbies the ANC to keep restrictions on attending sports-events, which SuperSport off course will cover, for as long as possible.
That CEO been smoking up something good in his Range Rover.
He wouldn't be such a cvnt if he smoked good stuff.

When I cancelled, that was a step away from Dstv. Difficult at first to do without the live sport I enjoyed so much. But I have taken many more steps away since then. I watch less telly now. I watch more with the family.

I cannot justify spending almost R1K on something that has a very limit usage. The family don't miss anything on Dstv. Nextflix, Prime and You Tube fulfill everything we want to watch now.

Zero.

The exact amount of times during the last 5 years of being DSTV free that I've considered going back on my decision..

Maybe if they convince .gov to drop the TV license requirements.
Oh wait, not really even ****ing then, morons!!

The only reason I still have it is F1..
Even then, they are on short finals.
