Many cancelled DStv Premium subscribers will be back - MultiChoice CEO

Will say this every time appreciate what you have, Just to watch the Euro's got hit with what essentially is an extra R340 over and above the sport package I already subscribe to just before it starts.
Where? Elaborate please.

Where? Elaborate please.

I live in the UAE service I use, I had to upgrade package I am on to get all games sure they dangle next years world cup as well, but still pretty ****

South Africans dumping DStv Premium — but they may be back

DStv Premium subscribers cut the cord or downgraded to cheaper packages in 2020 because of the absence of rugby, MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela told investors during a webcast last week.

Mawela said that as rugby returns, so will these DStv Premium subscribers.

Although MultiChoice does not disclose its DStv Premium subscribers, its latest results showed a decline of 8% in its premium segment — Premium and Compact Plus bouquets.

The average revenue per user in the premium segment declined from R588 to R580 per month.
No way in hell is that going to happen. I cut the cord, downgraded to Easyview, and, when current DSTV decoders break, that will be it. The next step is out.
I see that CU is now also available to Easyview sub's. A bit late.

I think he's overestimating the allure of mediocre rugby.

I don't even want to know how much money Multichoice deposited into the Northern Hemisphere, agreements pending, they might be desperate to get the viewer numbers up.

From a promoters POV, it is a money game.

Multichoice is yesterday's cantankerous old geezer. I think younger generations of viewers don't want or can't afford DStv, let alone Premium.

That 1.4 million will shrink...

Lol, it is quite simple, you subscribe for sport (maybe 2 hours viewing a week) but view SABC (6-10 hours a week) and don't cancel because it entertain the kids. Kids now have access to hundreds hours free stuff on mobile devices. RIP DSTV

No. He's making the mistake of assuming this to be the classic churn around rugby season. Some people found alternatives and other forms of entertainment. Others found they can do without it and changed their viewing habits. Sure some will be back but the exodus is real and the decline will continue.

I think he's lowkey telling you which demographic pays for DStv Premium.

If he's so sure of himself, why isn't channel 205 Premium-only?

I'd rather just go to the pub and watch there than sign up just for this. Watching at home is boring anyway unless you have mates over. Arrogant pricks.

The only reason I still have it is F1..
Even then, they are on short finals.
Get F1 TV Pro R79 per month and you can even pause the live race much better.Imagine thinking people will come back for only sport and paying 1k a month

What for the Lions vs Boks games?
Take out a subscription for 3 games?

Some of the biggest rugby fans I know, have not been watching games the past 3 years. Over and above that, some IPTV services abroad already has SA rugby channels, so many people wised up the past year as well. Good luck getting them back unless you drop your premium subscription to R29.99 a month - the price where it should be.
