A client has 50+ workstations connected to a server by 3 trendnet switches.

The IT person that installed everything did not leave any documentation behind on which port belongs to which workstation on the switch etc.

This is now my job - is there any software I can use to monitor the switch and then report on any disconnections if I unplug a network cable from the switch to help me map this network?

How intelligent are these switches, do you have console access to them at least.

If it has some intelligence you could just call up the mAC table to show what MAC addresses are connected to which port and then cross reference the MAC address reported in Windows for the NIC via some auditing software.

Provide the Model# of these switches so we can see what features they have.

Will have to check the model and hope that the previous guy didn't password protect them or something silly.

I'll most likey have to reset each one to access it as I don't know what IP's they have been assigned to login into a web interface.

I downloaded a web management utility that can scan for Trendnet switches so will give that a bash...........
