It seems to imply these guys were shot after the intial shooting.

So this lot may be a different group charging cops ? - one could cut and splice video to show whatever journalistic angle they want.

Whatever, it still can't be denied that had these guys put down their machetes, guns, spears etc etc this thread would not be here.

What I do not understand is what happened to the footage taken by the helicopters? Previously released footage, have shown the miners participating in the Sangoma act up till they moved down towards the police and after the shooting, but nothing while the shooting took place???

Everybody is blaming everybody…

I wish there was video footage of the white rabbit. But I don't think the miners earn enough to afford cellphones with video recording capabilities :(

Ja, it's hard to tell what the hell went on there, but from this new video it looks like some of the cops were waiting on the koppie (it's not a very big koppie, more like a grass knoll), and they were lying in the grass and between the rocks almost in ambush. Now whether they were just there for protection or whether they knew there would be a stream of miners soon running their way remains to be determined, but that "ambush" part does not look good for the cops.

When they go over to the body of the guy that is shot though, I can tell you he is not "a few hundred meters away" from the main area. More like 100 meters at most.
And the other things that is clearly wrong about the Media commentary, is that they say "most of the miners" were shot on the koppie, but the actual footage does not bear that out. The majority of bodies are lying close to where the police started shooting and only a few are on the koppie.

It is looking bad for the police at this commission.
But I am still thinking that this was going to be a white wash for the cops anyway.
What were they supposed to do?
These armed hooligans hacked two of their colleagues to death a few days earlier.

OK so the video shows the police shooting one person at the koppie after the initial shooting.

Looks like they do have something to explain.

And that "third force" has apparently got hold of the story (or is it just my browser) as all I am seeing is:

THE VIDEO YOU ARE TRYING TO WATCH IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON.

I'm really stoked to see more of my tax money being wasted on commission on inquiries for savages who killed colleagues, police and destabilised the economy. And now will probably be jobless as mines restructure and close down shafts.

Miners, unions members, they have and still continue to terrorize law abiding citizens on a daily basis on this country.
They have no regard for the law or for innocent peoples' safety whatsoever.
They brought this on themselves.
I have absolutely no sympathy for any one of them. What did they think would happen?
Illegal Strike !!! They killed cops and security guards !!!

This won't be over for a couple more years still. Hundreds of thousands of Rands will be paid out to the individual families of victims.

The video does not establish when the footage took place in the Marikana incident timeframe. The footage is also from different instances or even sources, except for the original shown footage by the media.

Who knows..? Maybe that man/suspect pulled a weapon on the police officer while ordered not to shoot and took defensive action. We cannot see or determine anything. Even the accents of the people in the footage change…

If this should be edited…

I don't care what they say... until you have been in that situation where you are facing masses of people with knopkieries, pangas, blunt weapons... they were chanting to attack, threatening to charge the police like savages... You don't storm armed police officers with weapons expecting them to not defend themselves... Ja jong... its all because someone killed the white rabbit remember.

African beliefs and primitive traditions, have nothing to offer modern society...

The first pair, yeah self defense, the second miner that got shot 12 times, well that was uncalled for especially since they disobeyed a direct order, the one who took the footage had him in his vision and at that point was determined not to be a major threat.

The koppie killing is highly suspicious with regards to the terrain and the distance and concentration of the bodies. Multiple gunmen would of been needed to do that since, on reload the miners would of been scattered more. That's heavily concentrated fire from a vantage point right there.

Yip, let all the people that have something to say, stand in front of a rioting bunch of drugged up nutjobs. Yes drugged up, there was talk they took some drugs before

You forgot to mention prior to that they locked two security guards in their car and burned them alive. Add in killing two policeman and you have a recipe for disaster, pity they shot such a few. Gunning them all down would have been justice.

That video actually shows nothing...

Doesn't show anyone being shot, it does not show that the majority of miners were killed anywhere other than where they charged the police... it shows nothing of any material value. For all that we know that video was shot at another incident and spliced into footage to make it look like it comes from Marikana.

Except between the rocks in that koppie? How did they get there?

Watch the video from about 2:40 on, it mentions dead bodies among the rocks.

So what. They deserved to die. Not the first time there was a mass killing in South Africa. And I am sure, won't be the last either. You don't f-around with armed police man. I don't call it the Marikana shooting or Marikana murders or killings or massacre. No, it was the Marikana dance :D WTF If you are stupid you must die.

Instincts take control to an extent when you hear automatic weapons being fired and a minute later you're swarmed by hoards of aggressive, striking, murderous miners. That's not to say that they were shot at lawfully, or that I know what happened as this is simply an assumption on my part.

I do however believe that the initial shooting was perfectly legitimate and understandable. What happened there on the koppie remains to be investigated and I suspect that there is far more to this than the cops simply ambushing and murdering them. It would have had to have been a co-ordinated mass-murder and somebody from the cops would have come forth with the truth already.

Seems to me that there is a lot of bias going on in the media to make more of a story than is warranted...
