Mass Effect: Andromeda

First hour down and first things first, this feels like a Mass Effect game.

I haven't really noticed many of the glitches that everyone's been complaining about, but then again ME has always had bugs and glitches. Maybe I've played the other games so many times that I've become oblivious to it.

The facial animations - not really an issue. Not much difference from the previous games. I think that everyone was expecting 'wow' and they were disappointed when they didn't get it. However the human females do look a bit plastic. The human males and other species look better.

So far so good. It seems like most of the moaners probably watched a few YouTube videos and started bitching without even playing the game. I'm sure there will be some annoyances further down the line, but every previous ME had that.

I think it's fine. If you liked and were a fan of the previous games, you'll feel at home here...

Edit: oh yes, the jet pack is awesome. It's something the previous games sorely needed.

Thanks! Could you please tell us if the mining missions are becoming too tedious compared to previous versions of ME. That was my main concern with the game.

Hey man. We want to play with characters that look like us, okay? That's what video games are about, being relatable and realistic.

Had a good LOL at this situation

so-called SJWs: We want more representation for PoC in vidya games. Protagonists are white like 99.999% of the time.

internet-right-wing: Race doesnt matter! It's just a game! SJWs triggered over nonsense!

/No white skin tones in MEA

internet-right-wing: Whaddaya mean I can't be white!? REEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I'd the say the combat from 2 & 3, with some of the RPG elements of the first game

Only thing about combat I didn't like in ME2/ME3 was the nerf to biotic powers. In ME1 you could become a god with biotics once you were a high enough level. It was fun just casting your different spells and watching everything float around and die without using any weapons.

In ME2 they nerfed biotics to not do much damage except if you combo them. Cooldowns etc. made this painful so you had to use guns as well. So my preferred playstyle in ME2/ME3 was Infiltrator with a snipe rifle and all the slow mo effects/perks. ME1 pure biotic was crazy fun.

Naughty Dog Dev Explains What Might Have Happened with Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Facial Animations
Andromeda seems to have lowered the quality of its base algorithm, resulting in the ‘My face is tired’ meme featuring nothing but lip-sync. This, presumably, was because they planned to hit every line by hand. But a 5-year dev cycle shows they underestimated this task (all this is exacerbated by us living in an era of share buttons and youtube, getting the lowest quality out to the widest audience.)

Were I to design a conversation system now, I’d push for a workflow based on fast and accessible face & body capture rather than algorithms. While it hasn’t 100% proved this method, Horizon Zero Dawn’s better scenes succeed due to a use of facial mocap.

The one positive to come out of all this is that AAA story-heavy games can’t skimp on the animation quality with a systemic approach alone. The audience has grown more discerning, which makes our job more difficult but furthers animation quality (and animators) as a requirement.

Yeah, if it ends up being DA:I in space, I will probably pick it up.

Early review: Mass Effect: Andromeda is Dragon Age: Inquisition in space

:p

Doesn't change the fact that female Ryder has this wtf confused permanently retarded look on her face. I'll be playing with the guy, at least he looks a bit more normal...

I've played very little so far, but one thing that struck me immediately was how disconnected the mouths of the characters were from what they were saying. I get that it'll likely never be totally in-sync, but this seemed way more off. Like their mouths were just making blabbing motions, totally separated from the speech.

Not liking the movement around systems.. too slow :(

Did you play the previous ones?

I've played just over 3 hours now and so far I'm loving it! Haven't had any bugs or problems and my only gripe is the character creator.

I also did the first multiplayer tutorial. My plan is to play a couple of hours single player tonight and then continue with the multiplayer tutorials and then maybe tomorrow sometime try out the actual multiplayer.

Also funny how the most vocal critics has zero self control and still buys the game.

Got about 8 hours yesterday and only finished the first mission Eos. The missions seem to be huge, but I'm also loving it so far and also no glitches.

Didn't bother with the character creator cos I always go with the default, so can't comment there. I like to play a game the way it was intended

Got through about 15 minutes this morning, seems like Mass Effect to me -so far so good.

lol I'm playing real slow it seems. Haven't even finished Eos.
Multiplayer is good fun

Haven't spent much time doing that yet. Whatever I mined did far came during the mission. When you're in the Mako you'll see a mining indicator in the top left with 4 elements which start spiking, like the previous games. Then you hit the probe button and collect your resources. The only difference is you drive a vehicle around a "rich zone"on a planet to collect resources, which probably takes about the same amount of time as scanning it in the previous games.

I'm not sure whether it will be cumbersome cos I haven't got to do crafting much yet, so I don't know how much of each element I'll need.

The moving between planets can seem more time consuming, but you don't have to drive your ship around like you did in the previous games (at least from what I've seen), so I think out balances out.

Oh sorry, I misread. Thought you were referring to the character's movement.

Yeah, I've heard the unskippable animations can get a bit annoying.
It's all good :)

Glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this
