Yes they do. But having lived here for quite a few years now I can confirm that such events don't lead to flags on random lampposts and roundabouts being painted. They are normally organised by local councils, with the odd person hanging a flag out the window.

The sudden appearance of scraggly flags all over the place and vandalised roundabouts is the territory of the tracksuit-wearing, beer swigging flagshagger.

Pretty sure the nation once did it all without a second thought until people were called names for it? Now there's the same stigma attached as driving a monster truck with a couple of star-spangled banners out the back. Seems like a surefire way to tell on which side of the political divide people lie and is used as tool of divisiveness.

As an outsider to all this it comes across as pretty weird - just saying. :)

How do you know none of them ever waved the flag for any of those events?

Because there are plenty of flags at all of those.

OK. I obviously missed what your point was listing the events with the suggestion that flags weren't flown.
I guess one gets yobs everywhere who only vent their patriotism in anger.
I do agree with @Flanders though that any showing of national pride outside of "events" is sadly frowned upon nowadays. I think it's a bad thing because that loss of a "national identity" (for want of a better term) leads to people giving less of a schidt about everything around them (including people)

Sure, I hear you.

It's not the flags themselves that are the issue, it's the hijacking of them to suit a (highly organised and not at all spontaneous) agenda, which is being criticised.

It's not like the locals rummaged around in their attics and found a few flags. Someone made a lot of money out of the "patriots".

Ag toe, Dave. That’s the actual problem. You’d EXPECT that level of violence in SA. The people of the UK aren’t built for it like we are, so when it happens here, of course they’re going to get their knickers in a twist, and rightly so. It’s NOT normal

Watched a doccie about knife crime a few years ago. They asked the local (2nd gen migrant) gangster why gangs had become so violent and carried machetes and “zombie knives”. He outright said it was because of all the Congolese, Sudanese and Somalians who had started showing up. They brought a level of violence with them that they’d never seen before. They don’t just threaten people like the locals used to, they actually do damage and/or kill them. So, the locals had to step up their game.

But it makes a mockery of the verkrampte club of MyBB reeing about how terrible UK crime is when they are actually 45 times more likely to be a victim of murder in SA…

Problem is the news sources they digest. They seem to honestly believe that you can't go to London without having your head chopped off at least 17 times and being forced to convert to Islam.
