Massive explosion in Oslo

An eye for an eye?

Pretty barbaric no matter how you spin it.

No killing of innocents is justified, whether as collateral damage in a sanctioned war or as retaliation via cowardly acts of terrorism.

The world we live in so Fked up it's scary actually.
How would you feel if you are sitting at a Tri-Nations rugby game in South Africa and some DRC nutjob detonates a massive bomb and takes out half of the spectators and both teams because he is pissed off at SA because of their interference in the DRC's internal affairs (as sanctioned by the UN and the AU)?

Yet the people killing libyans are heroes right? Typical of the world we live when some people seem less equal to other people. Funny how a few people die in norway and everyone is so upset and disgusted but 700 people get murdered in libya and people are like whatever collateral damage. Perhaps watch more news and see how many innocent people are killed daily by war. This type of bombing in norway is an everyday event for the people of liyba but of course this is norway so people actually care

Sadly bud i view all people as equal and if nato wants to murder then they must accept it will be returned, war is a horrible thing but it seems it way worse when the realism of war hits those involved in it. Much easier dropping bombs and killing than having to face the same reality. Maybe norway will now realize that and change, perhaps they have just been given a glimpse of everyday life in libya now.

I don't spread FUD, just because i don't agree with how certain things are does not make it any less relevant. I never see threads about the hundreds killed in stupid incidents by the powers that be, let one terrorist kill a few people and boy the threads pile up but nato can happily drop 2000 bombs and murder civilians, nobody gets upset for those poor people.

Qaddafi warned Europe, he said very clearly he will bring the war to Europe and why not? If they want to bring war why should he not be allowed to counter? I never knew war was a one way street.

*Nods head in agreement*

Well mickey let's say our army went into the drc and was bombing and killing people and they bombed a tri nations game in retaliation i would not feel as bad because that is how war is fought but if some stupid nutjob with no real reason did it then it changes everything hey. Mickey i have also not said i enjoy these attacks or want them to happen i have just pointed what can happen in times of war. I personally wish the world would disarm and stop war entirely.

It is interesting now to see it was not a terrorist or qaddafi that has done this, well so far that has not been confirmed though. It doesn't look like qaddafi.

A little snippet off of RT:
“People who are responsible for participating in terrorism in the world, which includes the United States, these NATO countries and committing violence against innocent people in other parts of the world, have to be prepared for some sort of retaliation and it is only going to escalate,” Harmon Snow said.

I wonder if pakistan will take the blame for this one?

Anyone claimed responsibility yet?
Was it the usual suspects?

Not sure cannot find anything on it, they reckon it could be al Qaeda from afghanistan and pakistan but considering the shooter was a blonde it may just be an inside job by a madman.

People are too quick to jump to conclusions.

Naaa i doubt he is working on his own or it is a major coincidence, the bomb and shooting cannot be separate incidents. What i mean is they cannot be two random acts that happened at the same time but i guess nothing is impossible.

Unless he planted the bomb as well?

That's what they think. They think he is responsible for both.

Christian Conservative kills at least 87

A gunman dressed in police uniform opened fire at a youth camp of Norway's ruling political party on Friday, killing at least 80 people, hours after a bomb killed seven in the government district in the capital Oslo.

Witnesses said the gunman, identified by police as a 32-year-old Norwegian, moved across the small, wooded Utoeya holiday island firing at random as young people scattered in fear. Norwegian television TV2 said the gunman detained by police was described as tall and blond and had links to right-wing extremism.

"We had all gathered in the main house to talk about what had happened in Oslo. Suddenly we heard shots. First we thought it was nonsense. Then everyone started running," a survivor, 16-year-old called Hana told Norway's Aftenposten.

"I saw a policeman stand there with earplugs. He said 'I'd like to gather everyone'. Then he ran in and started shooting at people. We ran down towards the beach and began to swim." Hana said the gunman fired at people in the water.

Many sought shelter in buildings as shots echoed across the island, ran into the woods or tried to swim to safety. Boats searched for survivors into the night, searchlights sweeping the coast. Rescue helicopters flew overhead.

The bomb, which shook the city centre in mid-afternoon, blew out the windows of the prime minister's building and damaged the finance and oil ministry buildings. Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who was not in the building at the time, will give a press conference at 6am GMT on Saturday.

Explosives found on island
There were no immediate reports of other suspects. But acting police chief Sveinung Sponheim said authorities were working on the hypothesis that several people may have been involved.

Police seized the gunman, named by local media as Anders Behring Breivik, and later found undetonated explosives on the island, a pine-clad strip of land about 500m long, to the north-west of Oslo.

Breivik's alleged Facebook page (PDF) appeared to have been blocked by late evening. It had listed interests including bodybuilding, conservative politics and freemasonry.

Norwegian media said he had set up a Twitter account a few days ago and posted a single message on July 17 saying: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests."

About 10 police officers were outside the address registered to his name in a four-storey red brick building in west Oslo.

The Norwegian daily Verdens Gang quoted a friend as saying he became a right-wing extremist in his late 20s. It said he expressed strong nationalistic views in online debates and had been a strong opponent of the idea that people of different cultural backgrounds can live alongside each other.

With police advising people to evacuate central Oslo, and some soldiers taking up positions on the streets, the usually sleepy capital was gripped by fear of fresh attacks. Streets were strewn with shattered masonry, glass and twisted steel.

Norwegians reacted with horror to television images of the bodies of young men and women strewn around the island.

"I just saw people jumping into the water, about 50 people swimming towards the shore. People were crying, shaking, they were terrified," said Anita Lien (42) who lives by Tyrifjord lake, a few hundred metres from Utoeya island, north-west of Oslo.

"They were so young, between 14 and 19 years old."

A young girl, her hair still wet after escaping told TV2:

"He walked slowly but surely around it [the island] and shot everyone. Eventually he came to where I sat and then he slowly went over and shot ten people." She escaped by jumping into the water."

"He was so calm, that is what was so strange."

It is the most violent event to strike Norway since World War II," said Geir Bekkevold, an opposition parliamentarian for the Christian Peoples Party.

The prime minister declined to speculate on who had been involved. But he told a televised news conference. "No one will bomb us to silence, no one will shoot us to silence."

This bit is pretty chilling:

"Norwegian media said he had set up a Twitter account a few days ago and posted a single message on July 17 saying: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests."

As Voltare said, "those that believe absurdities will commit atrocities".

I dont know how many times Ive being told to respect other peoples beliefs... but what if those beliefs enable killers like this?

The rancid right at it again :(

That's what they think. They think he is responsible for both.

Wow that would be incredible.

I don't believe it is people's belief that makes them do this in all honesty or every christian would be doing it and every muslim would have a bomb strapped to their bodies.

It's just warped people that enjoy killing. Could also be some mental disorder or some shyte like that.

It's not propaganda dude, if you watch a lot of news you will see innocent deaths are a daily thing.

Have they linked this guy to any organization yet?

Awesome story

The problem with being indoctrinated is that you cant rationalise the logic... The media is there to SELL stuff to you, and they will tell you any horse-poo to make their quota. (If you think that NEWS channels are un-biased, then think again - they are all there to make money)

So far the dude is linked to Neo-Nazi extremism but there is no proof on anything yet. Yesterday it was due to Norway printing pictures of a contentious religious figure.

No doubt the media are biased but if you watch a lot of news you do become desensitized to death and innocent people dying.

It was also linked to liyba and al Qaeda but it is sounding more and more like some random nutjob who was not mentally stable. I wonder if modern warfare made him do it :D.

lmao at people who jump to conclusions.

This is an insane killing spree :( especially if its one guy who orchestrated it. Apparently he was an islamaphobic guy who trolled the forums spreading fear and had lots of anxiety.. Haha maybe we should start locking some of the guys from myadsl.

Btw ghadafi is getting what he deserves, it's funny saddam was also a dictator but the people were not opposing openly so you won't find support of the US involvement. The Arab spring on the other hand was openly crushed by dictators and due to numbers you see support for other nations albeit slanted agendas. It's the who starts and calls for help that makes ALL the difference!

Qaddafi said he will wage his war in europe.

He did, but he is such a liar and I don’t think he’s capable (big talk and political posturing). I am of the opinion that any Qaddafi claims are BS (although he might try to piggyback on someone else’s butchery).
