Massmart in trouble

If the item e.g washing machine I need is on special at Game/Makro/HiFi corp/Hirsch's/Takealot/builders then I buy from whomever is cheapest at that time.
Dude, that's you really. Not sure where you're going with this.
I don't like Game stores as I find them cheap looking, they smell of cheap detergent, and that's that. I'd rather shop somewhere else. I shop around elsewhere. Just not Game.

Happier now?

Just don't let me catch you in one again...

I have no doubt they are in trouble. Example:

I bought a Deep Cycle battery from them at the end of April. It worked fine for a few nights of loadshedding and then would stop accepting charge. I took it back in June. They told me they need to send it away to get assessed and I will be contacted with the details and way forward once they get it back from the supplier.

Fast forward to last week when I decided to pay them a visit. It takes about 30 minutes for the customer service agent to figure out that the supplier has "repaired" the battery, but nobody has gone to collect it from the supplier.

She adamantly promises me that she will get it sorted and will phone me directly as soon as it arrives so that I can come and collect it.

Fast forward another week, the number I was given to phone the "manager" on directly is not being answered. And I am currently about 30 minutes deep into a chat with what I hope is an actual person on their site's chat functionality.

And this for a battery that I overpaid for just because they happened to have stock and I was desperate to get my UPS working before loadshedding kicked in.

They deserve to fail, just hope that the few competent people who work for them can get employed elsewhere.

Makro lost it's way.... as a "bulk" retailer.
The point used to be... that you got significant discount for buying in bulk.
Now these days you have to be careful, because they try to catch you out when buying the bulk items as very often those are higher priced than the smaller single package items.
People have become wise to their tactics.... so they've lost their point of their existence.

So Makro in PE (Gqeberha) moved to a much larger premises last year. Firstly it is further out of the city than where they were. Secondly more space, but they seem to have less stock. Thirdly there First Value Range (their housebrand) is often out of stock. Fourthly, the staff that do not have any enthusiasm to assist a customer (one or two exceptions). Lots needs to change to fix Makro. Spar seems to be the only retailer that gets things right consistently.

Their service is non existent (Game). Not sure why they have people on the floor as they serve no function. Also their selection of products is disappointing. Meh...

Exactly. From my many issues I have with Game, this will be one. Few times I wanted to buy from the local Game, but on pay weekend, they will have like 30 staff wandering the aisles and only one person manning 1 of their 10 tills. I don't do long queues, so I usually just drop the item I wanted to buy and leave.

And those 30 staff makes sure they quickly get busy as you approach them or give you the "that is not my department.... eish"
