Makro and Game owner in big trouble

Massmart’s trading statement for the 26 weeks ended 26 June 2022 spooked investors. It revealed another mammoth loss which sent the share price plummeting.

The retailer expects a net loss of between R1.05 billion and R1.16 billion, down from the previous half-year loss of R1.09 billion.

Massmart revamped its Makro, Game, and Builders Warehouse stores to improve the in-store experience and grow the shoppable range.
All good and well, but if the staff are scarce as hens teeth, and the ones that do help just look for another more senior person to ask for help, then it's still not a good customer experience. This is my Builders Warehouse standard experience.

These days I look for a Leroy Merlin

Most retailers in SA had a bad HY1 due to the effects of the looting and inflation. I think looking foreward, the forecast for HY2 is positive.

How many experienced South African execs do they have and how many Yanks were brought in to come and tell them how to do their jobs?

As a start get rid of your stupid same side checkout system that was designed for American doing self-service.

Or keep them and get rid of half the staff and let people do self-service checkout.

Game and Makro are so expensive and their online offering so lame it’s not surprising they are making huge losses. Either of those companies are last resort options.

I must say I went to Makro on the weekend and while it was a big shop I was a bit surprised at the multiple thousand rands at the end for what is essentially just consumables.

And I didn't bulk buy much other than frozen chips and some seafood stuff.

...is this because the looters had to loot last year? And nothing was done about them? All the instigators that were arrested...not a single court appearance or conviction. Nothing else done. The ANC way...

Game try to be too many things (home store, hardware, grocer etc) and failing to be any.
Add to it bad service and this is the result.
I thought it was innovating when they added meat but then it was gone the next month. They should have gone online sooner.

Game has become so pathetic that they should close down all their stores. Keep makro and builders.

Ever noticed how often Game stores get revamped, but still sell same junk and retain the most useless staff you can find.

I do not care about Massmart being in trouble.

All I want to know is when someone gets fired for investing in SA.

If that does not happen, I will stick to my thoughts that this was done for tax purposes in the US. Hopefully the IRS takes note of this.

Both those stores are useless.
From the instore ugliness, to the poor quality floor staff, to the horrible till systems. It seems everyone working there is out to make the experience miserable,
Then add the nest of hell vipers you must confront for any after sales service.

Give me Takealot or a smaller specialist store anyday.

Why would you want one of these?
