Heya Guys,

What are the maximum simultaneous PPPOE sessions Telkom permits?

From what I’ve been experiencing it’s 2.

Let me explain what I mean, let’s say there are three or more computers in a house, all connected via Ethernet, there is also a dsl modem/alvarion device connected to that network. Now, each computer MUST connect with it’s own PPPOE account, because they have different owners. This is not a case of using route sentry or bandwidth.

Any ideas?

It is NOT two as far as I know.

If all of them have different accounts and are not connecting using the same account then there should not be an issue getting three or four computers hooked up via the same line.

If however they are using one account on every computer then the number of concurrent connections would depend on the individual account and what the limit is set for it by the ISP.

antowan, it is different accounts, with different ISP's.... for some reason, If two sessions are already running, the third won't dial... I've tried WIN XP PPPOE client, RASPPPOE, and a modem... third connection is coming back as rejected. BTW I'm using WiMax, but I spoke a supervisor at the Telkom NOK, and he says WiMax ties in directly to it's copper based brother... so everything that applies to ADSL, applies to WiMax.

Is it two accounts for three users or three accounts for three users?

probably a limitation on ur modem
i have had in excess of 13 pppoe connections all on 1 4mbit line
adsl modem to switch
all pcs to switch
each dials its own pppoe connection, no problems with too many connections

No maximum. Most I've had was 5.

If it's one account, then it should associate on a per-port basis (at the DSLAM).

well i run 3 at my home setup:

I have route sentry running a telkom (internation soon to change to axxcess or IS) and IS (local) and at the same time i have the telkom account running on my router so the rest of house still has internet access.

I've had 10 PPPoE connections to 4 different ISP accounts on a Linksys router.

I ran five PPPoE accounts on one line through a D-Link 2500U set to bridging mode. All worked 100%...
