JUst heard an interview on the radio with the rep of the CWUnion saying they will most likely strike nationwide within the next few weeks over a increase dispute of 3 % or something.

You don't mention anything about how much money the current fuel levy generates. Somewhere along the lines of 40Billion a year. This needs to be mentioned as this is more than enough to pay for road upgrades without tolling.

Agreed. And the 30bn a year in corrupt money leaks.

Agree, a small section at the end to show the alternative might add more 'punch' to your report DJ. Showing what the fuel levy currently brings together with say what it could have brought in should they have bumped it up with say R0.10 to pay for all of this.

Also maybe a bit on why the fuel levy is more cost effective.

Up to you, think the original is already great work, thus far sent out to just under 50 people.
 
Fuel levy has 0c collection fees per rand. e-toll has 17c. It's clear which one is better.

Yes you and I know that but how many who read the report will?

Also, it is often better to show how 'far fetched' a project is by showing the alternative. Just to say that e-toll will cost us say R89b means little to many as many will not have the foggiest idea whether R89b is a lot or not.

However, if you show that the R36b or whatever could have been covered by say a bump of R0.10 in the fuel levy then things start to take on shape.

Add to that that the average user will pay say R0.01 per kilometer [i.e. R0.10 per liter and 10km per liter average so R0.01 per kilomer] more instead of the etoll R0.30 or even R1.80 per km if not tagged.

In that way readers can see and start to understand why etolls is bad news.

Remember, most on here get loads of info daily but most who will read that report will not know all of this and or will not understand all of this. If you however give them something to measure against i.e. a either or... you decide, then it becomes a different story.

I agree completely that there should be an alternative on the document.
 
Guys, great ideas, and I'll happily add them, but I don't have the data to perform that calculation. If someone else has done this calculation and it's verifiable, I will happily add it...
