I don't think it will push inflation up to double digits. It might have a half a point or two to add, but it won't be as large as double digits. I expect that we might see a basket recalculation in our near future to minimise JHB logistics cost increases, to artificially reduce inflation. At least we'll have a measure of this as well and be able to call them out if they do...
There was list of suggested measures one should try if you receive a fine whilst not owning a tag. Does anyone perhaps have the details of this?
Perhaps not if you believe the current inflation value is accurate. I think we are already much closer to 10%.
Well, you either disagree with the basket and weightings or you don't. I don't have that much of an issue with it as it stands, even though it does allow for a little manipulation. I don't think we're close to 10% yet...
2) After the first 4-6 weeks of passing through toll gantries, send SANRAL a registered letter, expressing your concern, that for the last 4- 6 weeks you have not received a payment request from them. You must state that you are COMPLETELY willing to pay the toll fees, but this cannot be carried out without a detailed invoice. Unreliable postal services could be to blame, so please would they send you your invoice by registered mail, to ensure you receive it. (This is a fully legal AARTO requirement for any letter of demand.)
I agree that we need to work out the optimal way to bork the system, but unfortunately they have already thought of this and the law was actually changed to make the owner of the vehicle legally responsible for the toll, with no requirement for invoicing:
They definitely have no intention of invoicing:

That's Uncle Pravin's little gift of our tax money in action.Revenue increased to R11.85bn from R6.5bn
The weightings are completely out of whack for the average middle class Joburger who is paying 25% more for electricity annually, drives more than the national average in gridlocked traffic - i.e. impacted by huge fuel cost increases, not to mention the cost of Woolworths pre-made meals- I would conservatively estimate the effective increased cost of living over the last year for some demographics at much more than 10%, closer to 20%.
But inflation is a macro-measurement to begin with, and the weightings take into account demographics. You can always measure your own micro-inflation, but it doesn't have any bearing on economic factors relating to inflation...
How do you account for the expense without an invoice or claim VAT - or are these tolls VAT exempt.
