Mazda2 vs VW Polo vs any other hatchback?

The i30 Hyundai is also pretty good. But from a savings view point get a 2013 or so Jazzy. You can get extended warranty on them. Use the money saved for a deposit on an apartment or house. Sure its nice to feel kid racer, but property grows faster and vehicles loose value fast. My friend lost 800k in his range rover over 3 years.

Whereas if you buy property that 100k will be worth about 300k in 3 years.
OP asked for advice on a choice between 2 cars. Not a financial planner. Perhaps you would like to advise how many kids he should have too.

Yaris 1.5 xS 2018, new one cost R255k, I am sure can get a demo for cheaper.

Has carplay and AA.

Go for the C/L Polo rather, as much as I like the M2, the 2 airbag thing is just ridiculous. If you can try get an r-line one, saw one at VW the other day in white, looks nice actually. Transforms the look of the car from the dreary looking standard model.

Mazda you will take a bath on resale value 5 years down the line.

For the previous generation yes, the new ones hold their value extremely well. Just go look at used Mazda 2's from 2016 up compared to other similar vehicles. The CX-3 is also renown for its resale value and it's just a larger Mazda 2.
