Hi all,

I have recently purchased mba 13". On the first use I got an estimated battery remaining of around 8 hours or so with 50% of the battery remaining. After charging the battery from flat around 2 or 3 times in total the estimated life remaining is 5 hours after a full charge.

Should I be concerned with this? There are no open apps or anything while checking this and I normally have the screen fairly dimmed.

Thanks.

I don't know how much battery life you can expect from a laptop the width of a pancake, you really should have picked a non-apple device.

Despite your obviously biased answer, the OP has every right to expect very high levels of battery life from their MacBook Air 13" since Apple specifies 12 hours and real world tests show similar or better results.

My Air's battery is like a boss. Use it on the battery almost every day. It still gets through the work day with about 40% left when it's time to call it a day at 5pm. I have about 140 cycles on it.

I restarted my mac last night and noticed the time remaining kicked up and the battery percentage seemed to last longer. I think I might have had something running in the background.

Still a bit concerning.

Thanks for the feedback

If you click the battery icon in the toolbar, it will show you which apps are using significant amounts of battery life.

Yes, you should be getting like 8 - 10 hours if the thing is idle. Are you checking this immediately after booting? Can you post a screenshot the Energy tab in Activity Monitor.

Lol, you somehow always manage to give just the worst advice. :D

The first few days of a Mac's life is usually overwhelmed by indexing of the file system. Battery life expectations are shorter during this time.

I still get great battery life from my Macbooks after 4 years.

I have to agree with the above based on my limited time using the product. My battery life is getting better which makes no sense to me.

With 80% battery life my Mba was estimating roughly 17 hours to go and these estimates have become more stable. I do tend to only write a lot of docs and read articles on the web which probably helps.
