Whatsup community.

Does anyone know if the mechanical warranty from budget insurance covers the shift interlock solenoid for the transmission?
 
Sounds like he should actually contact Budget to see what exactly is covered or not covered.

Definitely beats wild speculation.
I'v done that, seems like they people have no idea whether its covered or not as they transfer me from one person to the next.

I am positive it's all there in the warranty book you have, it's most probably not spelt out but it's there. Read the part that talks about the transmission and drivetrain.

It says something about internal lubricated items. I'm not a car expert but is the solenoid classified as a lubricated item?

If they were to mention each and every part to the smallest pin the warranty book would be a Bible, they sometimes just group things together and just mention the exclusions, if it's not in the exclusions it's covered, at least in theory.

What car is it and what does this interlock solenoid do?
Its an Elantra. I'm having a hard time moving from park to reverse, but switching from reverse to any other gear works without a hitch. Called the mechanic and he checked it out and said its likely the interlock solenoid thats causing the issue. If you have other suggestions on what it could be, I'd be open to hearing them.

I doubt I have anything helpful but here goes, a friend of mine has a Honda CRV auto that would occasionally lock the gear lever after he has parked the car, fortunately for him the Honda has a manual override for this which he would employ and he would be on his way until he parked the car when the problem would arise again.

Turns out there is some fuse that was burnt and thinking about it now I am thinking that fuse could have had something to do with some solenoid similar to what you describe, I am thinking what he was doing manually was overriding this solenoid.

I am not clued up on automatics so I am just relaying the story as is and applying my own logic which could just be flawed so it's just better to let qualified people deal with it, however it is worth a try going over the fuses to check if it could be a simple fix.

As far as I'm aware a Solenoid is to do with electrical, so possibly for a switch of sorts. I could be talking absolute shite though...

From what you saying here, sounds like it didn't always happen, only some times. Think i'l have the oak check out the fuse as well because mine does the same thing. Its doing it more often lately, but sometimes it gives issues, and other times it works like nothing is wrong.

Yeah if it's intermittent it can't be a fuse, probably some mechanical defect.

A fuse would either work or not. If a fuse blows, there's no closed circuit meaning it will stop working all together.
 
I'm pretty sure my Polo's manual is somewhere around there too... Honestly, I was speechless the 1st time I saw the manual.
