Mede8er models

Actually not - I would actually prefer my media player without a hard drive, it will run quieter and cooler. I now have close on 10TB of media - can you tell me how to get this onto a harddrive in a media player?

If the MEX400 was out when I bought my MEX500 - I wouild have bought it instead,

it all comes down to needs. Its the same as the whole Plasma vs LCD debate, same principle.

if you a media whore ;) then of course a 2TB drive wont be enough, but Im going out on a limb here and gonna say that most people a 2TB will be fine considering most people dont have access to HD content.

either way, I have access to local and streaming, and this little thing is FAR from noisy. I mean even IF you have a noisy unit, who cares? You watching TV and not gonna hear it anyway... Unless you have it in your bedroom or something... and even in this hot weather its running at quite a comfortable temp.

but I do hear you, definite value in having a unit with no HDD if that is what you NEED, especially if you got it in the bedroom or something

Guys with high-end systems don't really want to hear things like hard-drives and fans... we spend a lot of money on getting decent sound and don't want it messed up by outside noises.

2TB isn't even 200 high-def movies... and I'm also not the sort of person who's going to spend hours copy the latest 'content' on and off the internal drive.

I hear you... but you one of the minority. Most people dont have high end systems, they just listen using the TV speakers...

Yup, I hear you again... but again all depends on the person. If they turn into a media whore ;) then they have the option to yank out the HDD and stream their 30TB straight to the unit

Actually - quite a few people would be watching hi-def content with at least surround sound.... otherwise what's the point?

I've also seem complaints about various players and noise.... so apparently it is an issue for more than the 'minority'.

Strangely enough the MED300x isn't that noisy, it came with some rubber mounts to stop vibration, the fan is whisper quiet and putting in a 5900rpm 2TB also helped, my PS3 is noisier then it is.

Ya - my PS3 is an irritation... so is my DSTV decoder.

Haven't header the fan on the MED500 yet....

you sound very fussy! :)

I dont think any of these units are really noisy (referring to media players)... I've heard the mede8er and its the same noise level as the Compro... whisper quiet

Ive also got a WD Green edition drive in, which spins 5400rpm... nice and quiet! :D

sorry I think its 5900rpm cant remember

Not heard any noise from the med500 at my dad's either. Though the top of the range Mvix was noisy. I do like these units that you can plug in external drives, my original media player was useless in most departments.

When it comes to sound - I am - I spend hours getting rid of rattles and vibrations.... I like a dead quiet listening environment.

I would specifically recommend Mede8er over other media players. They seem to be on the ball around the latest issue where newer compressed header MKVs only play sound, and not video, on these media players.

Mede8er have released a beta firmware that is able to play these compressed header MKVs.

I have not heard anything from AC Ryan, Compro, WD TV, etc.

So one big reason to go for Mede8er is the support and firmware updates.

Other reasons are that Mede8ers comes with a 2 year warranty while most competitors are 1yr; MED500X comes with awesome bundled accessories, it has buttons on the unit, and the unit looks damn sexy.

I was waiting for you.... ;)

Regarding the above issue, I cant speak for the rest but soon after the default setting was changed in http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/ Compro released an updated firmware. So while Mede8er might have a BETA... Compro have an official release and I know that JUGGY installed it and he doesnt have any issues.

worth mentioning here though, that people really made a mountain of a molehill on this one.... :)

So Compros are now playing compressed header MKVs like the Inception that wasn't working for you?

Well, not being able to play the latest compressed header MKVs is enough to make a mountain out of a mole hill IMO.

Sure, on a budget, go for the Compro now that they play compressed header MKVs. I will recommend them when budget is important.

I guess it threw me a bit when I spoke to the technical department in JHB and the guy didnt know what a MKV file was....

:erm:

Rather ask on their forum. I have not spoken to them, so I would not know.
I have quite a lot on their forum and they are quite active on there.
